Today, we are at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, and one of the major highlights of today’s globally relevant event is the reveal of the new Changan Nevo E07. What is a Nevo, you might ask? Well, Changan has three electric sub-brands: Nevo (which has the Chinese name Qiyuan), Deepal (which we drove their S7 electric crossover SUV a couple of months ago), and Avatr, its electric luxury brand.
But where the E07 stands out is with, well, everything. If you’ve always argued about whether you need an SUV or a pickup, well, this is a perfect vehicle for your dilemma. The Changan Nevo E07 has a sleek and modern shape, wherein its front three-quarters is a traditional crossover SUV, but the remaining one-fourth of the vehicle has a roofline that tapers gently all the way to the tip of the tailgate. The resulting silhouette ends up looking like a Tesla Cybertruck, albeit with softer lines, a more curvaceous shape, and a front end with a grille that’s actually a screen.
Yes, that’s right, what you’re seeing is a screen as opposed to a grille, wherein it can display various images and animations, such as letting a person cross the road or revealing the charging status of the vehicle. But of course, the main highlight here is its rear end. It converts into a pickup truck via a button at the tailgate, which is a split design like in a Range Rover or BMW X5. The lower rear glass then drops down, while the large rear windshield rises towards the roof to give you a large bed. Do note, however, that this is only possible when the car is stationary, so don’t expect the Changan Nevo E07 to be able to haul bulky items anytime soon.
Moving inside, the Changan Nevo E07 has a very modern and premium interior. The materials and build quality are top notch, while the tech you get in this vehicle is amazingly comprehensive. The interior doesn’t contain a whole lot of screens. Instead, the driver only has a windshield-projected augmented reality head-up display. Everything else is controlled through the main infotainment screen with sharp graphics and a snappy processor. There’s also a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, and also provisions for tablets mounted behind the front seats.
As for powertrains, the Changan Nevo E07 comes in two electric drivetrain configurations. The first one is a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) layout that produces 338 horsepower and a 201 kph top speed. If you want more power and mild off-roading capability, there’s also a dual-motor version that produces 590 horsepower and a 210 kph top speed. A range extender plug-in hybrid is also going to be made available for this electric sport utility truck.
Finally, as with most modern cars nowadays, the Changan Nevo E07 comes with a plethora of advanced driver-assistance systems, ranging from automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane centering, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, just to name a few.
The Changan Nevo E07 will go on sale in China this year, with pre-orders for this electric sport utility truck already open in China. Should Changan Auto Philippines offer this vehicle in our country?
