2025 MG HS PHEV Previewed In PH, 1,065 KM Total Range, 105 KM EV Range

The 2025 MG HS PHEV has already arrived in the Philippines just months after making its global debut in the UK.

MG Motor Philippines used the 9th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) as a venue to preview the second-generation MG HS. However, this is no ordinary HS because what they brought in is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant. This is the 2025 MG HS PHEV, which has a total driving range of 1,065 kilometers and is set to compete with the BYD Sealion 6.

How does it achieve that driving range? Well, the main highlight here is a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder that produces 142 horsepower, but the electric motor is actually far more powerful at 209 horsepower. Combined with a large-ish 24.7 kWh battery, the MG HS PHEV has a pure electric range of 105 kilometers based on the WLTP testing cycle. Combined with the gasoline engine, however, it has a driving range of 1,065 kilometers, right where the BYD Sealion 6 is capable of achieving. Of course, that battery can be charged via the gas engine, but that won’t be particularly efficient, or through a 7 kW AC charging, which is good enough for a 4.5-hour charge to 100 percent.

The powertrain in the MG HS PHEV sends its power to the front wheels via a two-speed DHT (direct hybrid transmission) that’s similar to what you’d find in many Chinese hybrids and PHEVs. This removes the rubber band power delivery of a CVT and instead offers a linear driving experience like with a multi-speed automatic transmission. The MG HS PHEV is front-wheel drive (FWD) only, and its size is comparable to the BYD Sealion 6.

Now, as for its design, the 2025 MG HS PHEV is the first SUV in the Sino-British automaker’s range to wear the brand’s latest design language. The front end has a very wide octagonal grille with C-shaped side intakes, while the slim LED headlights are connected by a black trim piece. The side profile also looks more sleek and curvaceous than the previous generation model, with two-tone 19-inch wheels fitted to this particular unit. Lastly, the sloped rear end features a full-width LED taillight and a sporty rear bumper.

But perhaps the most dramatic change for the MG HS takes place inside. The dash design is completely new, two 12.3-inch screens housed in a single glass piece dominating the dashboard. The materials used are very nice, while the steering wheel has a sporty design thanks to its flat upper rim and bottom rim design. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and so is a wireless charging pad, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, an eight-speaker sound system, and LED ambient lighting.

The 2025 MG HS PHEV is only being previewed for now at the ongoing Philippine International Motor Show, but it’s pretty much a guarantee that the brand will be offering the new generation HS soon given how popular this crossover SUV is in their lineup. It is still unknown, however, if the PHEV variant is going to be part of the HS range.
