Today, Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) has decided to bring back the Kona, and it is positioned above the Creta as a slightly more premium offering. That’s because what you’re seeing is the 2026 Hyundai Kona Hybrid, giving Filipino consumers an affordable yet stylish hybrid crossover SUV option.
The 2026 Hyundai Kona represents the second generation of the popular subcompact SUV. Incrementally larger than the model it replaces, it also carries a distinctly futuristic styling that’s sure to catch attention as it cruises down the street. Its design is characterized by the “Seamless Horizon Lamp” upfront, which serves as both the daytime running lights as well as the park lights. The main headlight clusters are separate from the horizontal light bar, and it gives the Kona a very unique face.
Down the sides, the new Kona has black plastic fenders that’s complemented by highly-sculpted body lines and sharp creases that accentuate the Kona’s side profile. Lastly, the rear end has a full-width LED taillight design and a horizontal tailgate shut line that connects the two triangular LED taillights.
Inside, the 2026 Hyundai Kona likewise sports a very futuristic aesthetic. There are two 12.3-inch displays on higher variants, and is running the latest connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) operating system. The stylish interior is complemented by a generous amount of ambient LED lighting. Material quality has also been improved, while functionality remains core to Hyundai’s current interior design philosophy. This has been achieved through an intelligently-designed center console and dash, wherein a neatly-designed shelf is located just below the passenger’s side air vents. Finally, there’s also a height-adjustable powered tailgate.
Powering the 2026 Hyundai Kona Hybrid is a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder that’s arranged in a parallel hybrid setup. This means that its electric motor is integrated into its six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. With this electrified drivetrain, the Kona Hybrid produces 141 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque, with power being sent to the front wheels.
Safety is also enhanced through the Hyundai SmartSense, Hyundai’s suite of advance driver assistance systems (ADAS) that identify potential hazards for added peace of mind. This includes features like Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist, among others. It’s also equipped with Blind Spot View Monitor and Surround View Monitor for optimal driver visibility.
Sitting below the Tucson Hybrid, the 2026 Hyundai Kona Hybrid has an affordable price of P1,528,000 for the GLS, and P1,688,000 for the Premium. Interested? You can see it at Hyundai’s 3rd Anniversary Celebrations under the current management at the Bonifacio High Street Amphitheater until June 21.
