About a year after being previewed at the 9th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), MG Motor Philippines has finally launched the new generation 2026 MG HS Hybrid+. However, unlike the model that was shown at the event, which was a plug-in hybrid, the new HS that will be sold in the Philippines is a normal hybrid. But that’s no bad thing because, as you’ll see, this compact crossover SUV that’s as big as the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i is also a lot more affordable.
Through a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces and an electric motor, the system output is a strong 224 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque. This is sent to the front wheels via a two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), which is the preferred transmission choice of many Chinese hybrids. Think of it pretty much like a two-speed automatic, which works well enough, based on our experience with these gearboxes.
Anyway, since this is a normal hybrid, MG Motor Philippines is proud to highlight that owners of this vehicle don’t need to think about charging. And it’s an efficient one at that, as this vehicle has been verified by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) to achieve 21.55 km/l. With its 55-liter tank, a range of more than 1,100 kilometers is possible with this vehicle.
Now, as for its design, the 2025 MG HS Hybrid+ wears the brand’s latest design language. The front end has a very wide octagonal grille with C-shaped side intakes, while the slim adaptive matrix LED headlights are connected by a black trim piece. The side profile also looks more sleek and curvaceous than the previous generation model, and it also rides on black 19-inch wheels. Lastly, the sloped rear end features a full-width LED taillight and a sporty rear bumper.
But perhaps the most dramatic change for the MG HS takes place inside. The dash design is completely new, with two 12.3-inch screens housed in a single glass piece dominating the dashboard. The materials used are very nice, while the steering wheel has a sporty design thanks to its flat upper rim and bottom rim design. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and so is a wireless charging pad, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, an eight-speaker sound system, and LED ambient lighting.
Finally, the 2026 MG HS Hybrid+ comes with a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems, ranging from adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and braking, and a 360-degree camera.
The 2026 MG HS Hybrid+ is now on sale in the Philippines for P1,398,888, but for a limited time, an introductory price of P1,388,888 is being offered for this vehicle.
