The Toyota GR Corolla was a long time coming. Following its global debut in 2022, the model received a mid-cycle facelift for the 2025 model year. Finally, the 2026 Toyota GR Corolla is arriving in Philippine dealers on December 23, and here’s what you need to know.
As we’re getting the facelifted GR Corolla, the G16E-GTS 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that’s straight from the GR Yaris received a 30 Nm boost in torque, now producing 400 Nm. The 300-horsepower figure remains unchanged, and the GR Corolla is going to be sold with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.
The Toyota GR Corolla also adopts the GR-Four all-wheel drive (AWD) system from the GR Yaris, which has the ability to vary its power distribution between the front and rear wheels depending on the drive mode or situation. This is also fitted with a Torsen limited-slip differential (LSD) that adds the ability to shuffle power between the left or right wheels.
As for its styling, the 2026 Toyota GR Corolla is only available in hatchback form, whose front fascia has been enhanced for its mid-cycle facelift. The front bumper has been restyled to be more aggressive, while the grille is now wider and visually connects to the GR Corolla’s side air intakes.
The wider body versus the standard Corolla also enabled Toyota to addair vents to the GR Corolla’s front fenders. The rocker panels are also wider than the standard Corolla’s, and it also contains a stamped GR-Four logo. Lastly, the rear end of the GR Corolla comes with a more aggressive rear bumper, a large rear spoiler, a rear diffuser, and an interesting layout for its three exhaust pipes
Moving inside, the Philippine-spec GR Corolla comes with a 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster, along with sporty bucket seats, various red accent trimmings, and GR logos on the push-button starter, sports steering wheel, and center console. There’s also a head-up display, though unfortunately, the 7-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto looks out of place.
Other features include a wireless charger, a six-speaker sound system, and the full Toyota Safety Sense suite of advanced safety features, whether you splurge for the manual or the automatic. This means that adaptive cruise control, lane centering, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams are all fitted as standard. Understandably, for the manual version, adaptive cruise control lacks the stop-and-go functionality. These features come on top of blind spot warning, all-around parking sensors, and a reverse camera.
The 2026 Toyota GR Corolla will be assembled at the Motomachi plant, which is the birthplace of the Lexus LFA and A80 Toyota Supra. Prices start at P3,811,000 for the six-speed manual and P3,955,000 for the automatic. An additional P20,000 is required for Precious Metal and Emotional Red, the two premium colors for the GR Corolla.
