LOOK: Geely EX5 EM-i Plug-In Hybrid Lands In PH Ahead Of Launch

The Geely EX5 EM-i, which is set to rival the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, has already arrived in Philippine ports.

As promised by Geely Philippines earlier this year, the plug-in hybrid crossover SUV offering that they’re bringing in to the market has arrived ahead of its Philippine launch. Say hello to the Geely EX5 EM-i, a plug-in hybrid compact SUV that’s set to compete with the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i.

But first, let’s start with the name. The EX5 EM-i in overseas markets is called the Starray EM-i, but since it shares a similar design to the fully electric EX5, it’s unsurprising that they decided to market it in parallel with the aforementioned electric crossover.

Design-wise, the EX5 EM-i shares a common aesthetic with its fully electric sibling, though there are a few tweaks. At the front, there’s a full-width LED light bar, with the main LED headlights being in a separate unit. There are also boomerang-shaped elements and also the need for a lower grille to cool the engine.

At the sides, it ditches the flushed door handles of the fully electric EX5 in favor of conventional ones. Finally, the rear shares a lot in common with the EX5 with its full-width LED taillights. Now, dimensionally, the EX5 EM-i measures a little over 4.7 meters long, versus the 4.6-meter length of the EX5.

Moving inside, the Geely EX5 EM-i shares a similar premium and minimalistic aesthetic as the fully electric version, albeit with a few tweaks. We still don’t know its Philippine specs, but we can see a full-width air vent across the dash, plus there are the two large screens—a 15.4-inch main infotainment and a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster. All of this is running the Flyme operating system, and it comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For now, we don’t know what kind of plug-in hybrid powertrain it will get, as there are two versions sold worldwide. Both versions get a 1.5-liter four-cylinder working in conjunction with an electric motor, and this is mated to Geely’s unique Electronic-Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (E-DHT). Two battery sizes are available globally, with the 8.5 kWh unit having a CLTC-rated pure electric range of 55-kilometers, while the larger 19.09 kWh battery is CLTC rated at 120 kilometers of pure electric range.. Both battery capacities are also lithium-iron phosphate (LFP).

Geely Philippines promises the EX5 EM-i to arrive in the Philippines sometime this first quarter of 2026. If you’re in the market for a plug-in hybrid, you may want to consider the EX5 EM-i arrival first.
