Both models are powered by a 1.7 liter diesel engine with VGT, which puts out 134 hp and 330 nm of torque. There are three variants. LX, both available in 6-Speed Manual and Automatic, and EX, which is only available in 6-Speed Automatic.

As for features, all variants of the Kia Carens are well equipped. Standard on all models are LED daytime running lights, steering wheel mounted controls, 6-speaker audio system ISOFIX child seat anchors, Kia’s new Flex Steer system, which alters the steering feel depending on settings (Comfort, Sport, Ci rear aircon vents, and get this, a remote trunk opener, which I think the Kia Carens only has in all the MPVs sold in the Philippines. Also, there is smart entry with push button start, electronic parking brake, and projector beam headlights with levelling control.

Features exclusive to the top trim EX are leather seats, dual side airbags, front and rear park assist, automatic headlamps, puddle lamps, in which at night, there are lights under the side mirrors that illuminate your path, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, Active ECO (eco mode), heated and cooled seats, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, rain sensing wipers, paddle shifters, and a chilled glovebox.

Now, for the price. The 1.7 LX MT costs PHP1,140,000 and the AT costs PHP1,230,000. The top trim EX costs PHP1,480,000. I think the only reason you will think it is expensive is because it wears the Kia badge, but as a whole car, it’s actually very good value for money.

If you want to see the Kia Carens for yourself, how about heading over to Bonifacio High Street? Kia has chosen Bonifacio High Street as the location for the Philippine launch of the 2013 Kia Carens.

The launch itself will take place on May 31, 2013, and the public will be able to visit the event on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2. The event is full of family-friendly activities. There will also be a football clinic, as Kia is the sponsor of the Philippine Azkals. For the parents of their children, the Kia Carens will be available for test drives.
