The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a throwback to the old FJ40 Land Cruiser, hence its retro design. The FJ Cruiser is displayed at the World Of Toyota Motor Show, potentially previewing to the public Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation’s intentions in selling the said vehicle. It actually isn’t a new car in the country, as grey market vendors have already been selling this locally ever since it was launched internationally.
However, according to a report by AutoIndustriya, the Toyota FJ Cruiser will be sold in the country and in only one variant with a 4.0 liter V6 VVT-i engine, 5-speed automatic transmission, and 4×4. Because it is a 4.0 liter engine, and is also manufactured in Japan, the FJ Cruiser qualifies for JPEPA (Japan Philippine Economic Partnership Agreement), having a price of PHP 1,798,000 when it goes on sale in October. Pretty good value isn’t it?
To give you a perspective on why the FJ Cruiser is such a good value, the 4×4 full option Toyota RAV4, which has a 2.5 liter engine, therefore not qualified for JPEPA, costs PHP 1,963,000. The Toyota Fortuner 3.0 liter 4×4 with VNT, which isn’t made in Japan in the first place, costs PHP 1,779,000.
