Last November 14 – 17, 2013, there were two motoring events that were held at SM Mall Of Asia. The first being the 2013 Manila International Auto Salon, and the other one, being the Chevrolet Motorama, and at the Chevrolet Motorama, Chevrolet’s midsize sedan, the Malibu, was launched to the public.
Aimed to compete in an arena where the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord are king, the Chevrolet Malibu is a great alternative for our midsize sedan choices. The Chevrolet Malibu is powered by a 2.4 liter inline-4 ECOTEC VVT DOHC engine, producing 165 hp @ 5,800 rpm and 225 Nm of torque @ 4,600 rpm.
With a plethora of features, my first impressions are so far, to my liking. At the Chevrolet Motorama, not only did they launch the Malibu, Chevrolet also showed-off to the public their Chevy MyLink multimedia system, and the Chevrolet Malibu at the event is equipped with the said feature. A highlight of MyLink is that it doesn’t contain an optical CD slot anymore, clearing up free space behind the screen. What do I mean by this? Upon pressing the button below the screen, the whole unit pops up, and reveals an illuminated bin to store your bits and pieces. Touch screen response time and processing time for the MyLink system is adequate, if not as fast as today’s Galaxy S4s, Xperia Z1s or iPhone 5Ss. Kudos to Chevrolet for bringing in their own proprietary multimedia system, as the majority of our touchscreen multimedia interfaces are developed by third-party manufacturers.
Aside from the Chevy Mylink, the Malibu seems pretty loaded. It also comes with an electronic parking brake, ambient lighting, smart proximity key with push button start, TFT LCD between the two gauges, LED tail lights, automatic HID headlamps with auto levelling, rear parking sensors, two power outlets, dual exhaust tailpipes with chrome finish, power folding mirrors, variable hydraulic power steering with leather, ISOFIX rear child restraints, collapsible pedal-release system, and 18 inch alloy wheels. All these and more for an SRP of P1,498,888.
Here are the other cars at the Chevrolet Motorama. Along with Chevrolet’s current lineup, they also showed-off to the public the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and some of the Chevrolet Camaros through the years.
