Under The Spolight: Toyota Launches The New Toyota Yaris

There’s no stopping Toyota Motor Philippines, since 4 cars have already been launched, and yet we’re only at the 4th month of the year. It seems Toyota does not want its 12th consecutive triple crown (Most passenger vehicles sold, Most commercial vehicles sold, and Most vehicles sold) to be taken away anytime soon with the launch of the new Toyota Yaris.

Designed to appeal to a young demographic, Toyota markets the Yaris as a fashion accessory, and not simply a mode of transportation. To further enhance the claim, Toyota launched the Yaris at the hip and ever so popular Republiq club at Resorts World Manila, showing the public and to its guests that they certainly know how to party.

Parties aside, the Toyota Yaris will definitely appeal to the younger party with its youthful styling and color choices. These colors include Frozen Blue Mica Metallic, Grey Metallic, Orange Mica Metallic, Thermalyte, Red Mica Metallic, Freedom White, and Attitude Black.

Inside the new Yaris, just like the Toyota Vios, where the car shares platforms and design, also grew in size, giving passengers more cargo space and more importantly, more legroom and headroom. Interior design is also the same with the Vios, with faux stitching on the upper parts of the cabin. Black is the dominant color choice, giving the Yaris a youthful and sportier vibe, with orange interior lighting instead of the blue lighting found in the Toyota Vios.

Powering the new Toyota Yaris are a pair of not-so-new 1.5 liter and 1.3 liter VVT-i engines that also powered the first generation Toyota Vios and Yaris (or Echo). (See Toyota Vios review to know how the 1.5 liter fares.) The 1.5 liter is exclusively mated to a 4-speed AT, while the 1.3 can be had with either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT.
