Hyundai’s hugely successful Sonata is the car that created a revelation to the brand. While many would consider the Genesis luxury sedan to be the true revelation, the Sonata is the real deal, since it is a more accessible sedan compared to the former. The Sonata’s deal maker, it’s striking design with its coupe-like roofline, has set the tone for how car design should be. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata is here, and what a perfect month it is to launch the all-new Sonata to the Philippine market, in which HARI’s theme for its launch party in SM Mall Of Asia ice skating rink is appropriately named “Winter Sonata”.
The Hyundai Sonata’s design may draw criticism from people who were blown away from the previous generation’s striking coupe-like design. Gone are the flowing lines, in place are more elegant and upright flowing lines. Hyundai calls this their Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, which is heavily inspired from the second generation Hyundai Genesis. While not as striking as the previous model, its still a good looking and cohesively-designed car nonetheless.
Thanks to significantly larger exterior dimensions, the Hyundai Sonata’s interior has also been significantly enlarged. Further contributing to the airy feel of the interior is the panoramic sunroof that is found on the top trim model. Just like the exterior, the interior has also matured, now having a cleaner and horizontally dominant design. Hyundai has concentrated on the cabin’s tactile feel, giving significant attention on how the buttons click and sound. The steering wheel, for instance, has been developed for 16 months, in order to create a tiller that is comfortable and luxurious to hold.
The Hyundai Sonata only has one powertrain choice. A 2.4 liter Theta-2 4-cylinder unit, producing 178 hp and 228 Nm of torque, mated only to a 6-Speed Automatic. While the figures are a bit lower than the previous generation, weight savings that are attributed to a new Advanced High Strength Steel body that is lighter and more rigid, plus an flat underbody that is akin to those found on supercars, make up for the reduced powertrain figures. Also, thanks to these aerodynamic and weight changes, fuel economy has been improved.
The new Hyundai Sonata is well equipped with luxuries and creature comforts. Standard on all variants include 18 inch alloy wheels, HID Automatic Headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lights, Power Folding Mirrors with LED signals, Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror, Dual-Zone Auto AC with Rear Vents, 4.3 inch LED touch screen system, Intelligent Drive System (Sport, Normal, and Active ECO), among others. As for safety, all variants are equipped with a rear-view camera, electronic stability control with Hill Start Assist, and the debut of a Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which alerts the driver when backing up if there is a car that will be crossing its path.
Features exclusive to the top trim model include a panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake, rain sensing wipers, amplitude selective dampers, which examine the road in order to give the best ride and handling, and another introduction of a first in its segment Blind Spot Monitoring, warning the driver if there is any car in its blind spot should the driver want to change lanes.
Along with a Hyundai-exclusive 8-Year or 160,000 km warranty, whichever comes first, the Hyundai Sonata is priced competitively for the features it possesses. 2.4 GLS: P1,698,000 2.4 Premium: P1,898,000 For complete specifications, visit this link. http://myk384.blogspot.com/2014/12/car-profiles-hyundai-sonata.html
