Chevrolet Philippines Unveils The All-New Turbocharged Chevrolet Trax (With Brochure)

The global market is saturated with crossovers, and now, even small crossovers are on the rise. People are simply trading in length and width for extra height. It’s not surprising, considering most people appreciate the taller ride height of a crossover, and the added versatility and practicality only a tall vehicle can offer. With the Juke just recently launched, here’s another newcomer in the small crossover segment. Say hello to the turbocharged Chevrolet Trax.

The Chevrolet Trax stands out in its segment because it is the only small crossover with a turbocharged engine fitted as standard. Styling-wise, the Trax features slightly flared wheel arches, adding size and dimensions to its diminutive proportions. There’s no denying that its looks are mainly for show, since this is no off-roader by any means. The overall design is smart, without being too showy and tacky. The dominant bowtie logo is housed in Chevrolet’s typical dual port grille.

Inside, the Trax is clearly inspired from the Chevrolet Sonic, which it is based. The motorbike-inspired gauges are carried over from the youthful Sonic, as this Chevrolet Trax is clearly aimed towards millennials. Smart design details such as pockets that look like air vents, and cubby holes scattered all over the place mean that iPhones may be easily misplaced easily in the vehicle.

As mentioned in the title, the Chevrolet Trax is turbocharged. Turbos were strapped onto a 1.4 liter EcoTec petrol engine, which produces 140 hp and a strong 200 Nm of torque. Only one transmission is available, a 6-Speed Automatic with manual mode, perfect for the urban environment, since most people find manuals to be stressful in Manila’s terrible traffic conditions.

Considering the prices of the two variants of the Chevrolet Trax, equipment levels are very generous. Standard across the range are daytime running lights, Bluetooth, USB, steering wheel controls, and a plethora of safety features such as ISOFIX child seat points, ABS with EBD, cornering brake control, rear seat belt warning, and 6 airbags. We highly commend Chevrolet Philippines for generously equipping the Trax with plenty of safety features since these safety features are often overlooked by consumers in the Philippines. For the LT variant, Chevrolet’s excellent MyLink infotainment system comes as standard, including a rear view camera, heated door mirrors, and automatic headlight are equipped.
