SUVs and crossovers are all the rage these days, and one luxury brand is not letting that opportunity fade away. Audi has created the Q2, the smallest crossover of the brand, and one of Audi’s smallest cars.
Measuring at just 4.19 meters long (4,190 mm), the Audi Q2 fits squarely into the size of the Ford EcoSport and Nissan Juke, assuming these were luxury small SUVs. The Audi Q2 is a breakaway from tradition. Whereas most Audis look like small, medium, large versions of each other, the Q2 looks completely unique, perfect for that rich, young, assertive millennial, whose lives revolve on being individualistic and authentic. The Q2 has sharp creases, an upright grille, and bold, exterior elements not usually seen in all other Audis, apart from the R8. Even the R8’s sideblades are on this Q2, and can be finished in different colors and materials. Black in particular, looks to be a great match. Launch Edition models are shod in 18-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in 215/50 R18, while the rest of the line up make do with 17-inch wheels wrapped in 215/55 R17 tires. A cool design element are its LED head and tail lights with dynamic LED turn signals. Switch them on, and they’re simply eye candy in traffic, when a car behind you is watching the amber lights sweep left or right.
Inside, and the design, though more subdued than the outside, also hosts plenty of customization options. Particularly interesting is the LED ambient lighting integrated into the interior decorative trims of the Launch Edition version in the photos. Also standard is Audi’s excellent MMI system with navigation and Audi Connect. It also includes a phone box, wherein it boosts your phone’s signal when your phone is placed inside the tray. Launch Edition models also include Audi’s excellent Virtual Cockpit, a 12-inch screen replacing the traditional gauges. Audi Connect also includes a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot for smartphones to connect to, because the Philippines isn’t distracted enough from social media while driving, right?
Powering the Audi Q2 is a 1.0 liter, three-cylinder TFSI engine with turbocharging and direct injection. The engine produces 116 hp and 200 Nm of torque, propelling this posh SUV fro 0-100 kph in 10 seconds, at a top speed of 197 kph. It is mated to a 7-Speed S Tronic dual clutch transmission.
The Audi Q2 is one of my favorite SUVs to ever come out of Audi. The tiny SUV is full of character, is fun loving, one of its reasons being its steering, which is from the Audi S3 sports sedan, and also because of its taut driving dynamics that echo the car’s cool interior and exterior design. For all this coolness though comes at a price, and it ain’t cheap, of course. The Audi Q2 costs P2,780,000, while the S Line costs P2,990,000.
