All-New Audi A6 Looks Familiarly High Tech At 2018 Geneva Motor Show (With Video)

Familiar looks, cutting-edge autonomous tech.

The all-new Audi A6 sedan has been revealed at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, and with it, are all-new technologies wrapped in a familiar looking but well designed body.

Starting with the looks, Audi says “like the A8 and A7 Sportback models, the A6 is the expressive ambassador of the new Audi design language.” They also highlight that “with its taut surfaces, sharp edges and striking lines, the business sedan unmistakably conveys its character: sporty elegance, high tech and sophistication”. The Audi A6 carries the wide hexagonal “singleframe” grille inspired from the Audi Prologue concept car. It has a dynamic and well proportioned design that, while looks familiar from its predecessor, has been stylized in key areas to make it look fresh and modern. Shown here are a couple of S Line variants, which highlight the Audi A6’s athletic side. The Audi A6 will be offered with three LED headlight options, with the top shelf HD Matrix LED headlights being highlighted through these photos with its distinctive LED daytime running light shape. Going to the sides, and the A6 now carries a wider shoulder than its predecessor, further emphasizing the car’s sporty character. Out the back, the A6 now has an integrated trunk spoiler, and LED tail lights with nine vertical lines.

The A6 is incrementally larger than its predecessor, with it being 4,939 mm long, (+7 mm), 1,886 mm wide (+12 millimeters), and 1,457 mm tall (+2 mm). Despite its increase in dimensions, Audi says space in the back seats have seen the most increases, while head and shoulder room has also seen increases for better space for three adults seated abreast at the back.

Inside, the Audi A6 shares the same basic luxurious architecture as the A7 and A8’s, which means it also carries Audi’s latest version of its MMI system that’s operated through two touch screens, a 10.1-inch main touch screen, and an 8.6 secondary touch screen. Haptic feedback is present so that dri, vers know that they are pressing the right icons. Like all other Audis, a 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit is offered, which replaces the traditional analog gauges. Wrapping around the two screens are some of the plushest materials you could ever touch, which include a mixture of open pore wood veneers, black panelling, and satin finishes. Two ambient lighting packages are offered, namely, the ambient lighting package, and the contour ambient lighting package, which Audi says “makes the dashboard and center console appear to float”. Other outrageous options include a panoramic sunroof, a Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, which delivers “fascinating 3D sound to the rear thanks to its height information.”

At launch, the Audi A6 will be powered by two engine choices. First is a 3.0 liter TFSI turbocharged and direct injected petrol V6 that develops 340 hp and 500 Nm of torque, with power sent through a quattro all wheel drive system via a 7-speed S Tronic dual clutch transmission. The other one is a 3.0 liter TDI V6 diesel that produces 286 hp and 620 Nm of torque. Power is sent through a quattro all wheel drive system via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Both engines utilize a mild-hybrid powertrain, which means the engines are mated to a belt alternator starter (BAS), which works together with a lithium-ion battery. Audi says the Audi A6 can coast between 55 and 160 km/h.

Customers can also choose between four different suspensions for the Audi A6. There’s a standard steel spring suspension, sports suspension, adaptive suspension, and air suspension.

Of course, like the Audi A8 and A7, the Audi A6 is also equipped with pioneering autonomous driving features. It includes Audi AI, which is a set of autonomous driving features that include Parking Pilot, Garage Pilot, City Assist, and Tour Assist.
