Mazda has unveiled at the 2018 New York Auto Show the 2019 Mazda CX-3, which brings subtle changes to the already handsome small crossover.
Centering on the theme of “Exquisite and Edgy”, the CX-3’s KODO design language emphasizes on the principle of minimalism, wherein the CX-3’s aesthetic beauty lies in its proportions, and now with the overwhelming amount of lines and creases that’s common in cars nowadays. With that in mind, the refresh is very minimal, focusing on what only needs to be. Up front, the CX-3 gets a new grille pattern design and new chrome accents. Piano black accents have been added in the side pillars and fog light housings, plus there’s a new LED tail light design that aligns the CX-3 with Mazda’s latest offerings. Lastly, the Soul Red Crystal paint has now been introduced in new CX-3.
That sense of minimalism, and reducing the unnecessary has been implemented to the interior, too. It begins with the removal of the mechanical parking brake, replacing it with an electronic parking brake. This has enabled Mazda to reconsider the center console space, with the engineers now finally being able to add an integrated center armrest with storage inside. Mazda has also re-thought of the interior design, too, as the CX-3 gets a new dashboard design, now with suede-like material, providing a sophisticated atmosphere inside the CX-3. Also new to the 2019 CX-3 is the CX-5’s seats with high density, vibration absorbing urethan foam. Lastly, a folding center armrest has been added for the rear occupants.
The CX-3 is still powered by the same 2.0 liter Skyactiv-G inline-4 petrol engine as before, producing 148 hp and 200 Nm of torque. As ever, it is mated to a 6-speed manual as standard, or automatic transmission as an option, while power is sent through the front wheels as standard, or through all four wheels via an i-ACTIV AWD system. G-Vectoring is standard, which brakes the car’s inner wheel for better cornering and agility.
Elsewhere, the CX-3 gets more sound deadening for better interior refinement and quietness.
The 2019 Mazda CX-3 will arrive in North American dealerships from this spring.
