Ten Filipinos To Compete At The 2018 Subaru Palm Challenge Regional Finals In Singapore

Will a Filipino finally emerge victorious at the Subaru Palm Challenge regional finals?

Motor Image Pilipinas Inc., the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Philippines, has now selected the ten Filipino contestants to compete at the regional finals of the 2018 Subaru Palm Challenge. After more than nine hours of holding on to the Subaru XV 2.0i-s with EyeSight on site, the ten challengers will face other Asian competitors at the regional finals in Singapore.

The Philippine face-off was held at the 2018 Subaru Festival, which also became the opportunity for Motor Image to launch the new Levorg 2.0 GT-S EyeSight, now equipped with the same 2.0 DIT turbocharged and direct injected boxer engine from the WRX sports sedan. The new sports wagon is now on sale at a price of P1,998,000.

The event kicked-off at 9 am, which went through for as long as the last person standing can ever hold on to the Subaru XV. This meant that the contestants had to endure rain or shine, and everything that nature has to throw at it. Not only that, but they also need to be able to go through multiple challenges that range from dancing in place, or standing with just one feet.

After more than nine hours, the ten remaining contestants to compete in the regional finals have already been determined, but each contestant still held on to the Subaru XVs trying to be crowned as the winner for the Philippine face-off. Rey Balintucas, a contestant newbie, emerged the winner.

This 2018’s challenge also brought about some interesting twists. Juan Furiscal and Jaspher Galaura, both part of last year’s top ten, fell early in the competition. Rheden Pinoliad, last year’s runner up and Alex Neblasca, 2016 Regional Palm Challenge strongman also didn’t make it past through the local leg.

Veterans Carlo Talahib, who was also last year’s PH team captain, and Filmark Bernante, last year’sRegional Palm Challenge country winner, rejoins the 2018 team, but it was Rey Balintucas and Juntie Flores, last year’s PH winner, who held on longest. Eventually, Flores’ bid for back to back wins was spoiled by Balintucas, who outlasted Flores by merely 3 seconds.
