Is Hyundai PH Going To Steal Kia PH’s Limelight By Launching The Chinese-Built Reina?

Hyundai PH does not want to be outdone by Kia PH.

As Kia Philippines’ brand relaunch comes closer to the January 30, 2019 due date, its chief Korean rival seems to be working on stealing some of Kia’s attention by launching the Reina A-segment sedan on January 31, 2019.

Coincidentally, the Hyundai Reina and Kia Pegas, which is one of the three cars being teased by Kia Philippines on it website and social media platforms, share the same platform of the previous generation Kia Rio/Hyundai Accent. This means that both companies are probably targeting the same segment. In China, the Hyundai Reina tops out at RMB73,900 (or roughly P575,000), so it would be interesting to see how the two cars will fare against each other once they arrive in the Philippines.

Both cars are powered by a 1.4-liter Dual CVVT petrol engine that produces 95 hp and 132 Nm of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. In order to bring costs down, it is safety to say that both cars will probably specced in a way that it remains as an affordable option, squarely targeting the A-segment.
