2019 MIAS: Chevrolet Philippines Will Bring Back The Camaro

The Ford Mustang will finally have some competition.

The Ford Mustang will soon have some company as the Chevrolet Camaro will finally make a comeback. After launching its iconic Corvette Stingray locally last year, The Covenant Car Company Inc (TCCCI), the official distributor of Chevrolet in the Philippines, is bringing back the Chevrolet Camaro.

The Chevrolet Camaro has long been absent in the Philippine market. Ever since its disappearance, the segment has been left to the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. However, it has been the Mustang that has been grabbing all the motoring industry headlines, which has become one of the best selling high-performance cars in the Philippines with sales of more than 400 units last year. This is set to change as Chevrolet Philippines aims to capture a part of the Mustang’s market share once it unveils the Camaro at the 2019 Manila International Auto Show on April 4, 2019.

Now on its sixth generation, the Camaro has been given an update in the middle of 2018. The Camaro’s changes include a more aggressive front fascia, as well as more modern LED taillight designs. The SS variants feature a blacked-out dual-port grille with more aggressive lines. The teaser photo from the invite shows a portion of the Camaro’s fascia with the RS appearance package. In the US-market, the RS appearance pack is only available for the LT variant, and from here, we can predict the powertrain configurations that will be launched.

In the LT variant with the RS appearance package, the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 serves as the base engine, producing 275 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The other engine choice is a naturally-aspirated V6, producing 335 hp and 385 Nm of torque. Of course, we could be wrong if they also include the SS, which features a 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 that produces 455 hp and 617 Nm of torque. An 8-speed automatic, 10-speed automatic, or a 6-speed manual are the various transmission choices depending on the engine choice.

On the inside, the Camaro continues to utilize a high dashboard design, featuring large gauges, an 8-inch TFT LCD multi-info display in between the two gauges, 8-inch MyLink touch screen infotainment system, as well as a plethora of driver-focused details.

Pricing and full details have not yet been announced, so it is safe to say that the all-new Chevrolet Camaro may be another reason for you to visit the 2019 Manila International Auto Show, which will be held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City from April 4 to 7, 2019.
