The all-new Lexus LM broke cover at last week’s 2019 Auto Shanghai, and while on the outside, it may simply look like a more premium Toyota Alphard with the Lexus spindle grille, it’s actually more than that.
While the exterior has the usual Lexus styling bits to bring the Alphard in line with the Lexus line-up, the interior is really where it’s at. The model shown at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show is a four-seater variant. Effectively, this means that third-row seats have been removed to make room for what is effectively a lounge on wheels.
The two rear executive seats are separated by a partition from the front rows, and in the partition is a large 26-inch flat screen TV, which is controlled by a small touch screen located in the center armrest of the executive seats. The partition also features a large fridge, which is able to store two large bottles of wine. The executive seats themselves feature seat heating, cooling, as well as a massaging function.
Lexus says that a seven-seater version will also be available, which will feature a similar arrangement with the Toyota Alphard’s interior. The second rows will feature electronic recline and ottomans.
The Lexus LM will receive two powertrain choices. The LM 300h has a 2.5-liter hybrid system, while the LM 350 will feature the same 3.5-liter V6 and 8-speed automatic from the facelifted Toyota Alphard.
