SsangYong Berjaya Motor Philippines has recently unveiled the all-new Rexton, the brand’s popular midsize SUV. The Rexton aims to offer a fundamentally different driving experience compared to all of its competitors as it builds on the philosophy of having the SUV come out first before the pick-up. Yes, this is not a PPV (pick-up-based passenger vehicle) since the Rexton came out first before its pick-up counterpart.
The Rexton is one of the first vehicles in the SsangYong line-up to utilize the brand’s new design language, featuring strong lines, bold creases, and an imposing front end, characterized by a wider grille flanked by automatic HID headlights with LED daytime running lights for the 4×4 variant. The 4×4 variant also features 20-inch chrome alloy wheels, LED fog lights, and a pair of sharp LED tail lights that give the Rexton a wide rear design. Speaking of the rear, the 4×4 Rexton features a smart automatic power liftgate which opens automatically if you stand next to it for a couple of seconds.
Stepping inside the Rexton reveals a plush and premium interior, characterized by standard leather seats with 8-way electronic adjustment for the driver and 4-way electronic adjustment for the front passenger. Heated seats are also standard for the first and second rows, while cooled front seats and a plush brown quilted leather interior are only for the 4×4 variant. For everyone’s infotainment needs, an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system is standard, and it also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, power-hungry devices can be charged through a 220V outlet. Yes, the Rexton has a three-pin plug at the rear that can even charge a laptop.
Under the hood of the Rexton is the same 2.2-liter inline-4 turbo diesel engine found in the Musso pick-up, producing 181 hp and 420 Nm of torque, with power sent through either the rear (for the 4×2 variant) or all four wheels (for the 4×4 variant) via a 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission from Mercedes-Benz. In case you’re still not aware, SsangYong has a long-standing partnership with Mercedes-Benz for quite a while now.
In terms of safety, the SsangYong Musso has dual SRS airbags and a reverse camera for the 4×2 variant, while the 4×4 variant has six airbags.
Pricing for the SsangYong Musso starts at P1,730,000 for the 4×2 variant and P2,230,000 for the 4×4 variant.
