After making its global debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, Audi Philippines has officially unveiled the all-new Audi A6. The new generation A6 offers class-leading space, luxury, and technology. Also along for the ride is a revolutionary mild hybrid powertrain that aims to provide an unmatched combination of performance and fuel efficiency.
Just like the Audi A8 and A7, the all-new Audi A6 is the expressive ambassador of the new Audi design language. With its taut surfaces, sharp edges and striking lines, the Audi A6 unmistakably conveys its sporty, elegant, and high tech look. At the front of the A6 is a wide hexagonal Singleframe grille inspired by the Audi Prologue concept car, which is then flanked by sharp Matrix LED headlights with LED daytime running lights. Meanwhile, the side profile features powerful contours above the A6’s wheel arches—a testimony to Audi’s Quattro genes. Its sleek roofline flows neatly into the steeply raked C-pillars, creating a dynamic silhouette. At the rear of the Audi A6 is a chrome strip that runs across the width of the car, providing a link between the rear LED taillights and accentuating the car’s width.
Speaking of its width, at 1,886 mm wide (+12 mm wider than its predecessor), the A6 is the widest in its class. The rest of the dimensions have also been enhanced from its predecessor, which are now at 4,939 mm long, (+7 mm) and 1,457 mm tall (+2 mm).
The enhanced exterior dimensions have given the Audi A6 the most spacious interior in its class. And being an Audi, the A6’s interior features a minimalist and luxurious design, accentuated by the customizable LED ambient interior lights. Swathes of leather, wood, aluminum, and other various customizable interior elements give the Audi A6 a very luxurious atmosphere. Drivers are greeted by a fully digital and highly configurable Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster, providing well laid out information right at the driver’s line of sight. Immediately noticeable are the lack of buttons and switches, as most vehicle functions and features have been migrated to the twin Audi MMI 10.1-inch and 8.6-inch HD touch screen displays.
The Audi MMI’s main 10.1-inch screen is mainly for vehicle information, entertainment, and navigation, while the secondary 8.6-inch screen is used for climate control, various comfort functions, as well as gesture input for entering navigation data. There’s also a decorative black panel that runs across the width of the dashboard to create a seamless look with the two touch screens, making it look like a single piece of glass when the vehicle is turned off.
Under the hood of the all-new A6 is an all-new mild hybrid powertrain. It features a 2.0-liter TFSI inline-4 turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 12V mild hybrid system with lithium-ion batteries. This lets the car run on electricity during stop-and-go traffic, as well as when coasting on a highway for unparalleled fuel efficiency. The total system output is an impressive 245 hp and 370 Nm of torque, letting the Audi A6 sprint from 0-100 kph in an equally impressive 6.5 seconds, all the way to a top speed of 250 kph. Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system is not available for this Audi A6, which means power is sent through the front wheels via Audi’s own S Tronic 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. With this powertrain, Audi quotes a fuel economy figure of 16.7 km/l.
As for safety features, the all-new Audi A6 features Lane Departure Warning and a Driver Assist package, which consists of Speed Warning Parking Aid, Efficiency Assist, and Rest Recommendation. This comes on top of a Rear View Camera and Electronic Stabilization Control.
The Audi A6 2.0 TFSI is now available in the Philippines and is available for viewing at Audi’s dealerships in Greenhills, Global City, Alabang, and SM Seaside Cebu. The starting price for the Audi A6 is around P4.5 million.
