Mazda Philippines has unveiled the 2020 CX-5 last October 2019, bringing with it a few upgraded interior appointments. Notably absent from the 2020 line-up was the diesel variant–at least until now. Mazda Philippines is now offering the CX-5 AWD Diesel Signature for P2,350,000.
At its price tag, it certainly isn’t cheap, so you’re probably wondering right now what makes the CX-5 AWD Diesel Signature worthy of consideration? Well, the compact crossover inches ever closer to luxury SUV territory with its Nappa Leather interior, real wood trims, air-conditioned front seats, among other premium appointments. Of course, a 10-speaker Bose sound system comes as standard, along with the Mazda Connect infotainment system and the new 7-inch digital gauge cluster.
The CX-5 AWD Diesel Signature also gets the full suite of i-Activsense semi-autonomous driver-assist features, which adds automatic emergency braking (marketed as Smart City Brake Support), lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist. This comes on top of blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert, which are already standard on the CX-5 2WD Sport and above.
From the outside, the CX-5 AWD Diesel Signature sets itself apart from other variants with its new set of 19-inch alloy wheels, which are similar in design to the Mazda CX-8‘s. Adaptive LED headlights and a 360-degree camera also come as standard.
Under the hood of the CX-5 AWD Diesel Signature is a revised version of Mazda’s 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D diesel engine. The revisions enable the engine to produce a healthy 190 hp and a meaty 450 Nm of torque. This is then mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
With that said, Mazda’s local distributor Bermaz does not expect the AWD Diesel Signature to be a volume seller. With its positioning as a high-end compact SUV, the CX-5 AWD Signature will be for those who are looking for the absolute best in the compact crossover SUV. In that case, it just might attract some of those who are also looking into an entry-level subcompact luxury SUV. Of course, being a Mazda, it comes with a 3-year warranty and free maintenance, along with the best customer service in the Philippine automotive industry as rated by J.D. Power.
