Motor Image Pilipinas, the distributor of Subaru in the Philippines, has officially launched the new Subaru Forester GT Edition in the Philippine market. This comes a few months after its regional debut in Singapore which coincided with the annual Subaru Palm Challenge.
The new Forester GT Edition sets itself apart from its unique sporty exterior upgrades. These include a sporty set of front bumper extensions, side skirts, rear bumper extensions, roof spoiler, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Like the XV GT Edition, these upgrades were designed in close collaboration with renowned engineering company Giken Co. Ltd and Masahiko “Jack” Kobayashi.
As a recap, Kobayashi-san worked with Subaru for 25 years. He is the man behind the Outback, the current generation WRX and WRX STI sports sedans, Levorg sports wagon, and the first-generation XV.
Giken, meanwhile, is an award-winning engineering company founded in 1964. Holding numerous patents in Japan, South Korea, and the United States, it has established itself as an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of technological and material handling systems. Giken is a global supplier of aero parts and other passenger car components for Subaru and other major Japanese car brands.
As for the interior, the Forester GT Edition boasts its own leather seat design which Subaru says is “inspired by the cabins of high-performance grand tourers from Germany and Britain”. Additionally, the Forester GT Edition also comes with a few safety and infotainment upgrades, which include a new 8-inch Display Audio System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a new 360-degree camera system called Superview Around Recognition (SAR) 360. This new system lets you scan the exterior without even getting out of the vehicle itself.
As the GT Edition is mainly an aesthetic upgrade, the powertrain remains the same. Under the hood is the familiar 2.0-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine that produces 156 hp and 196 Nm of torque. Of course, being a Subaru, power goes through all four wheels via a CVT.
Interested? The Subaru Forester GT Edition is now on sale across all Subaru dealers nationwide for P2,120,000.
