First previewed to the public during the 2019 Manila International Auto Show, Auto Nation Group (ANG), the official distributor of Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge vehicles in the Philippines, unveils the new 2020 Jeep Compass compact crossover SUV. This marks the first time that the American automaker’s compact SUV offering has been offered for sale in the Philippine market.
Just like the new Renegade, the new 2020 Jeep Compass is also assembled in Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s (FCA) manufacturing plant in China, which is a 50:50 joint venture with GAC Motor. As it takes advantage of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement, ANG was able to price the Jeep Compass competitively against its Asian competitors such as the Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, and Mazda CX-5.
Jeep’s latest compact SUV features the iconic 7-slot grille that has become a hallmark of all Jeep models. Flanking the grille are a pair of halogen projector headlights with bulb-type daytime running lights. Meanwhile, the car’s side profile is characterized by a chrome strip that runs on top of the windows and then flows neatly towards the rear fascia, which is highlighted by a pair of striking LED taillights. Other design features include 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, as well as foglights.
The interior of the 2020 Jeep Compass is highlighted by a trapezoidal center stack bezel–a characteristic Jeep design cue. This houses a 7-inch UConnect 4 touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife. If you are unaware of what CarLife is, that’s basically Baidu’s competitor to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Sounds are then played through a 6-speaker audio system. Occupants will also appreciate the large panoramic sunroof which gives the interior plenty of light.
Under the hood of the Jeep Compass is a 1.4-liter MultiAir inline-4 turbocharged petrol engine that produces 162 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Power is sent through the front wheels via a 7-speed dry dual-clutch transmission.
As for safety, the Jeep Compass is equipped with seven airbags, electronic stability control, run-down battery protection, reverse camera, and rear parking sensors.
The 2020 Jeep Compass is now on sale in the Philippines with a price tag of P1,850,000. Until June 30, 2020, ANG is offering a P50,000 launch discount to celebrate the arrival of two of its latest SUVs.
