Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official distributor of Geely in the Philippines, has shown a sneak preview of the digital launch of the all-new Geely Azkarra to the media. Geely’s latest compact SUV offering is aiming to compete head-to-head with class stalwarts such as the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester, just to name a few. This Saturday, May 30, 2020, at 6:00 PM, the all-new Azkarra’s formal launch will be streamed to the public via Geely Philippines’ website, Facebook, and YouTube accounts.
The Geely Azkarra’s exterior was penned by Peter Horbury–formerly part of Swedish luxury automaker Volvo in which Geely is a majority owner. The resulting design is a striking compact unibody SUV, featuring Geely’s signature Expanding Cosmos grille which is flanked by a sleek pair of slim headlights with daytime running lights–all in LEDs of course. Towards the rear, a satin silver strip runs across its width of the Azkarra, in which a pair of striking LED taillights with sweeping LED turn signals give this compact SUV a striking rear end. There’s also a blacked-out D-pillar which gives it a floating roof effect, along with integrated twin exhaust pipes.
With a team of global designers and engineers, the Geely Azkarra’s interior is striking and well-finished. There are two variants on offer: Premium and Luxury. The good news is, whichever variant is chosen, the striking interior design and its features largely remain the same. The list of standard features on all variants is quite comprehensive given its price point, and this includes 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, a massive 12.3-inch touch screen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, 7-inch digital gauge cluster, and a power liftgate. The top trim Luxury variant gets the benefit of plush Nappa Leather and wireless charging.
Under the hood of the Geely Azarra are two very interesting powertrain options–both of which are turbocharged units. The base Premium is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-3 petrol engine that produces 177 hp and 255 Nm of torque, which drives the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic. If the numbers sound familiar, this is because it’s the same powertrain found in the Geely Coolray.
On the other hand, the powertrain option that’s grabbing the headlines is the one that’s found in the Luxury variant. It uses that same 1.5-liter inline-3 turbo petrol engine, but this time, it is mated with a 48V belt-starter generator (BSG), a 48V-12 DCDC converter, 48V lithium-ion battery module, and a battery management system (BMS). Yes, the Geely Azkarra is available as a mild-hybrid–the first in its segment. Total system output is an impressive 190 hp and 300 Nm of torque, with power sent through all four wheels via a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
The Geely Azkarra, along with the Coolray, are among the first vehicles in the Philippines to be equipped with CN95 filters. These cabin filters are designed to effectively filter out dust, harmful gases, particulate matter (PM) 2.5 particles, and droplets with diameters larger than .74 microns which are often attached to coronaviruses.
Lastly, the Geely Azkarra also comes with an impressive list of standard safety kit, which includes 6 airbags, hill start assist, hill descent control, stability and traction control, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera system.
Setting a competitive price range among compact SUVs, the Geely Azkarra can be bought for as low as P1,438,000 for the Premium variant and P1,598,000 for the Luxury variant. A P100,000 discount is also on offer when you reserve a new Azkarra today until July 31, 2020.
Geely Auto Group CEO An Conghui said the “the Geely Azkarra, is an affordable luxury SUV. With its technological power, refined interior, healthy space, and safety features, the Geely Azkarra will bring a more enjoyable experience to your high-quality life.”
