SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp. (SMC ACDC), the distributor of BMW in the Philippines, has launched three new cars through an online media conference. This includes new variants and updates for the 5 Series, X3, and a limited-edition Z4 for 2020.
The 2020 BMW 520i Sport is a new variant for the German luxury automaker’s popular midsize luxury sedan. Unlike the limited-run Malaysian-made 520i Luxury Line—some of which were also used as service units for the SEA Games, this new variant is once again made in Germany. As such, it is slightly expensive at P4,290,000. Still, BMW Philippines was able to give it quite a good number of new features to make up for the price. BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment now comes with Apple CarPlay, and this latest infotainment works in conjunction with the BMW Live Cockpit Plus digital instrument cluster. Other features include automatic LED headlights, LED foglights, rear power sunshade, powered trunk, ambient lighting, and a HiFi sound system.
As the 520i nomenclature denotes, this variant is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo petrol engine that produces 184 hp and 290 Nm of torque, with power being sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
At this point, many of you are probably aware that BMW has just unveiled the refreshed 2021 BMW 5 Series for the global market. Will it arrive in the Philippines soon? SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp. President Spencer Yu said via the virtual press conference that the facelifted 5 Series is planned to arrive in the country by early 2021.
For those looking for a compact luxury SUV, the X3 now comes at a more affordable entry price of P3,990,000. This is thanks to a new variant called the X3 xDrive20d Business. As standard, the new X3 comes with the latest iDrive infotainment system which now comes with Apple CarPlay, along with the BMW Live Cockpit Plus digital instrument cluster. There’s also a three-zone climate control, HiFi sound system, rear window blinds, LED ambient lighting, a power liftgate, just to name a few.
As this is the xDrive20d variant, it is powered by the familiar 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo diesel engine that produces 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Power is sent to an xDrive AWD system via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Lastly, BMW Philippines has also launched a limited-edition model for the Z called the Z4 M40i Frozen Edition. Priced at P5,990,000, this is more than just a Z4 M40i with a special BMW Individual Frozen Grey II matte paint. Under its long hood is an upgraded twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 petrol engine that now produces 387 hp (+47 hp) and 500 Nm of torque.
Just like the standard Z4 M40i, this model also features the latest BMW iDrive 7, which works in conjunction with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional digital instrument cluster. A head-up display is also offered, along with a Harman Kardon sound system. Advanced driver-assist features are also offered in the Z4 M40i, such as the Reversing Assistant–which automatically remembers the last 50 meters the car drove forward and then automatically steers the vehicle as you reverse, and also Parking Assistant–which is an advanced self-parking feature.
All of these new BMW vehicles come with a five-year or 200,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first. Buyers of any new BMW can also opt for the German automaker’s latest aftersales program called BMW Service Inclusive (BSI), which is a preventive maintenance package that’s good for 5 years or 60,000 kilometers and only involves a one-time payment. A higher 100,000-kilometer limit is also available for those who frequently use their BMW. BSI can also be transferred to the next owner, increasing the resale value of the car.
If these new BMWs have captured your interest, you can now purchase them online through the BMW Digital Showroom. This new online platform aims to make the vehicle purchase process easier and of course, safer amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The BMW Digital Showroom also serves as a convenient portal to learn more about BMW vehicles, see the latest special offers, and be up-to-date on key information about the brand.
“We are very excited to bring these new products and share the improvements we’ve made for our customers and aspiring BMW owners. Not only are we offering more options in terms of vehicles, but we are also making sure that we come up with services that make the whole BMW experience as enjoyable as it can be. Strengthening our presence digitally is one of our main thrusts, and the BMW Digital Showroom is an exciting way to learn more about the brand and offer a convenient way for visitors to interact with our dealership network.” SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp. President Spencer Yu.
