Triesenburg Auto Corp. (TAC), the official distributor of JAC passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the country, enters the highly-competitive subcompact SUV segment with the all-new JAC S4. With a starting price of P878,000, the JAC S4 aims to compete squarely with the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Suzuki Vitara, MG ZS, GAC GS3, just to name a few.
From a styling standpoint, the all-new JAC S4 features sharp lines and striking surfaces. It’s far cry from previous Chinese cars, which were often accused of copying the designs of other vehicles. The hexagonal grille features a chrome strip that meets with the sharply-designed headlights, which are in full LEDs in the Ultimate variant. 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights are equipped as standard on all variants.
Moving inside, the JAC S4’s interior is also a significant improvement over past Chinese cars. Perceived interior quality is much improved, with better materials and a more organic design. Standard features include power windows, door locks, and mirrors, heated side mirrors, electronic parking brake, 3.5-inch multi-information display, electronic parking brake, cruise control, and a standard radio with Bluetooth and USB ports at the front and rear seats. Intelligent variants and above get synthetic leather interior, a large 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment system with smartphone mirroring, passive entry with push-buttong start, six-speaker sound system, power-adjustable driver’s seat, auto climate control, sunroof, LED courtesy lights, and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The top-trim Ultimate variant is certainly one of the most well-equipped small SUVs in its segment, featuring a fully-digital instrument cluster, rear aircon vents, and a power liftgate.
Under the hood of the JAC S4 is a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 147 hp and 210 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual (only in the base Luxury variant) or a CVT.
The JAC S4 is also well-equipped with safety features ranging from dual SRS airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, brake override system, and rear parking sensors. Intelligent variants and above gain a 360-degree camera system, while the top trim Ultimate is one of the most well-equipped subcompact SUVs in terms of the advanced driver-assist features we expect from modern cars nowadays. The feature list includes automatic high beams, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic alert.
The JAC S4 is now on sale in the Philippines with the following prices:
Luxury MT: P878,000
Luxury CVT: P928,000
Intelligent CVT: P998,000
Ultimate CVT: P1,098,000
