Is Mazda PH Bringing In The MX-5 100th Anniversary Edition?

Based on Mazda Philippines' latest Facebook teaser, the MX-5 100th Anniversary Edition might be on its way to the Philippines.

About a month ago, Mazda Philippines launched theĀ 2020 Mazda 3 edition100. Yet despite the name, that limited edition model is primarily made to celebrate Mazda’s compact passenger car being crowned as the world’s best-designed car for 2020 by the World Car Awards. However, based on the latest teaser on Mazda Philippines’ Facebook page, it seems we’re about to get a car that’s truly meant to celebrate the brand’s 100 years of existence. Specifically, the Mazda MX-5 100th Anniversary Edition.

Apart from the MX-5, the Japanese automaker from Hiroshima has also created 100th Anniversary Editions of its entire lineup. But it seems the Philippine market might only be getting the MX-5 for now. Nevertheless, this limited edition model will definitely be a special treat for both collectors and Mazda fans alike.

The Mazda MX-5 100th Anniversary Edition is coated in Snowflake White Pearl and is embellished in a few deep red trims. This exclusive color combination harks back to Mazda’s first passenger car, the R360, which first came out in 1960. Other bespoke exterior details include special 100th Anniversary badging and wheel caps. Based on the Facebook teaser, we’ll definitely be getting the red soft top version. It is still unknown at this point if we’ll also be getting the RF variant.

More bespoke trimmings are seen in the interior of the Mazda MX-5 100th Anniversary Edition. The interior is upholstered in deep red leather and deep red carpeting with a 100th Anniversary plaque. All of these interior trimmings also pay homage to the R360, which also featured a red interior when it debuted in 1960. To top it all off, the car’s key fob also features a special 100th Anniversary logo.

As for performance, the Mazda MX-5 100th Anniversary Edition’s powertrain should be the same as the standard model. This means it is powered by a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G thatĀ produces 181 hp and 205 Nm of torque with a redline peaking at 7,500 rpm. As expected, all power goes through the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

We’re definitely excited to see this special Mazda MX-5 100th Anniversary Edition reach Philippine shores as it’ll definitely be a treat for both car enthusiasts and Mazda fans alike. Now, do you wish Mazda Philippines would also bring in 100th Anniversary Editions of its other models such as the Mazda 3 or CX-30?
