American Honda Motor Co., Inc., just unveiled a teaser video of the next-generation Honda Civic. Set to debut this November 17, 2020, the all-new Civic will debut as a pre-production prototype.
The current 10th-generation Honda Civic made its debut in late 2015 the 2016 model year. Its radical redesign proved to be popular among consumers in the Philippines, catapulting the Civic to the top of the compact passenger car sales chart. It also was a return to form for the Civic, as it revived the nameplate’s sporty driving experience when compared to its humdrum predecessor.
For this 11th-generation model, Honda has opted to go towards an evolutionary approach. After all, the 10th-generation Civic’s design was so successful, its designers didn’t want to radically mess with a winning formula. The overall design seems to echo the 10th-generation’s looks, but with a number of refinements such as sleeker LED headlights and taillights whilst still maintaining its sleek fastback-like profile.
The next-generation Honda Civic will most likely ride on an all-new platform, and it will most likely continue to utilize a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 173 hp and 220 Nm of torque paired with a CVT. Various markets around the world may feature either a 1.8-liter or 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine as the base engine choice.
American Honda will debut the Civic pre-production prototype via Honda’s Head2Head Twitch channel. Honda has a significant presence in gaming and esports, as the exclusive automotive partner of Team Liquid and the Riot Games League of Legends Championship Series. In addition, Honda’s gaming strategy includes a partnership with Twitch, where the Honda Head2Head gaming channel, now in its third season, is the exclusive auto-branded channel on the platform.
The production-ready next-generation Honda Civic will launch in sedan form in late spring 2021 as a 2022 model-year vehicle.
