2021 Honda City Hatchback Will Make Its World Debut On November 24

Goodbye Honda Jazz? It seems that the all-new Honda City hatchback will be taking the Jazz's place here in the ASEAN region.

Launched in late 2019 at the Tokyo Motor Show, the all-new Honda Jazz follows are more rounded and minimalist appearance compared to its sportier predecessors. Unfortunately, it seems that we won’t be seeing the all-new Honda Jazz in the Philippines anytime soon. Instead, the Honda City hatchback might be taking its place altogether.

Honda City Hatchback Schedule To Debut On November 24

Honda Thailand has already announced a launch date for the Honda City hatchback: November 24, 2020. Based on these patent images leaked over the internet since April of this year, we can see that the City hatchback’s design is similar to the sedan version. The only major difference is the rear end, wherein it uses a hatch rather than a trunk.

Don’t be surprised to see that the interior design of the Honda City hatchback will remain the same compared to the sedan version. However, it’s still unknown at this point whether the Jazz’s flexible and well-loved “ULTR seats,” will be carried over to the City.

When it comes to the powertrain, expect the City hatchback to feature a 1.0-liter inline-3 turbo gasoline engine that’s also in the Thai-market City sedan. This turbocharged engine produces 120 hp and 173 Nm of torque, with power being sent to the front wheels via a CVT.

In addition to the VTEC Turbo powertrain, Honda Thailand also announced that the City e:HEV hybrid will also make its debut. Though the powertrain specifics haven’t been announced, it could most likely use the same e:HEV powertrain as the all-new Jazz, which consists of a 1.5-liter Atkinson Cycle gasoline engine and an electric motor at the front axle. The gasoline engine itself produces 97 hp and 127 Nm, while the electric motor produces 106 hp and 253 Nm of torque.

As for when it makes its debut in the Philippines? We won’t be surprised if it comes with the City sedan’s new non-turbo DOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine that produces 121 hp and 148 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to the front wheels via a CVT.

Honda Cars Philippines has not made any official announcements yet regarding the upcoming City hatchback. If ever it will arrive in our market, we predict that the City hatchback might go on sale in the Philippines in mid-2021.
