2022 BMW M5 CS Debuts With 627 HP, 0-100 KPH In 3 Seconds

The BMW M5 CS is the most potent and powerful car that BMW has ever produces. It has 627 hp and goes from zero to 100 kph in just 3 seconds.

The much-anticipated limited edition 2022 BMW M5 CS finally breaks cover as the German luxury automaker’s most powerful production BMW ever. All of the BMW M5’s performance comes from BMW M’s tried-and-tested 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine along with numerous chassis enhancements to handle all of that added power.

From the outside, the BMW M5 CS looks pretty much like the recently-facelifted standard M5 that came out in mid-2020. To separate it from the standard M5 and the M5 Competition, the M5 CS gains a number of gold bronze elements, such as the grille and 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside those wheels are standard carbon ceramic brakes with either red or gold brake calipers. Other differences include a vented hood and BMW Laserlights that emit a yellow beam instead of the usual white. This is inspired by BMW M’s racecars which also use yellow LED headlights on the track.

A number of weight reduction measures were implemented into the M5 CS. This includes the use of carbon fiber for the hood, roof, front splitter, mirrors caps, diffuser and rear spoiler. Don’t expect added refinement either as the German luxury automaker reduced the sound deadening to further reduce weight. As a result, the BMW M5 CS is 104 kg lighter than the M5 Competition.

More track-focused upgrades were also made to the interior of the BMW M5 CS. The front seats are now made out of lightweight carbon fiber and are wrapped in Merino leather. Despite the lightweight construction, the front bucket seats are still electrically adjustable and feature seat heating. The seats also feature the map of the Nurburgring Nordschleife along with an illuminated M5 logo. Drivers will be greeted by an M5 CS illuminated sill plate and two 12.3-inch screens for the digital gauges and iDrive 7 infotainment system.

BMW M certainly did not leave any stone unturned because even the rear passengers get individual bucket seats. This means that the M5 CS is now a four- rather than a five-seater. On the upside, at least even the rear passengers won’t be thrown around the cabin as the driver hoons around a race track. Other interior upgrades include an Alcantara headliner and M seat belts on all four seats which feature the brand’s tri-colors.

As mentioned, the BMW M5 CS uses the brand’s familiar 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine, but it now produces 627 hp and 750 Nm of torque. Power goes through an 8-speed automatic transmission that’s connected to a rear-biased all-wheel drive (AWD) system that has the ability to switch to rear-wheel drive (RWD) mode for those who want to initiate drifts. Thanks to these upgrades, zero to 100 kph now happens in just 3 seconds flat, 0.2 seconds faster than the M5 Competition. Top speed has also been increased to 306 kph.

To handle all the added power, the M5 CS gets a new Active M Differential and an enhanced AWD system. The Dynamic Damper Control system was also recalibrated in order to take advantage of the M5 CS’ lower weight. Lastly, stickier Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires can be fitted right out of the factory.

The BMW M5 CS will indeed be a rare breed because this potent sports sedan will only be available for one model year. The BMW M5 CS will go on sale in North America and Europe this spring.
