Based on the humble 2021 Toyota Vios, this new GR Sport variant is characterized by its unique aggressive front fascia. There’s also the expected side skirts along with a completely unique rear bumper design and an obligatory GR Sport badge at the rear.
Toyota has also upgraded the GR Sport variant’s interior, featuring leather + suede sport seats with embossed GR logos, GR floor carpets, GR push-button start, and GR-specific gauges. Lastly, there are the obligatory red stitching details in the steering, shift knob and doors for an even sportier vibe.
Just like in our ASEAN neighbors, we expect the Philippine-market Vios GR Sport to be powered by the same 1.5-liter inline-4 Dual VVT-i gasoline engine found in the standard 1.5 G variants, which produces 107 hp and 140 Nm of torque.
At least in Malaysia, the GR Sport variant isn’t just an aesthetics package. The CVT gearbox has been re-tuned to feature 10 simulated gears instead of the usual 7 found in the standard 1.5 G Vios. The “10-speed” CVT can be activated via Sport mode or using the steering-mounted paddle shifters. In addition, Toyota has also added a stiffer suspension setup to the Vios GR Sport, reducing body roll and improving high-speed cornering. Despite this, Toyota says that the sportier suspension offers a balance between comfort and sportiness.
The launch of the Toyota Vios GR Sport is happening in just a few days, so do stay tuned to Go Flat Out PH to find out more about this new, souped up Vios variant.
