Toyota PH Launches Vios GR-S, Reduces Prices Of G Variants

The Toyota Vios GR-S has finally been launched in the Philippines, while the rest of the Vios lineup also receives an upgrade this year.

The 2021 Toyota Vios GR-S has finally arrived in the Philippines and is destined to be publicly launched this March 13. The new, sporty addition to the Vios lineup aims to bring the spirit of Toyota Gazoo Racing to the country’s best-selling vehicle whilst still maintaining Vios hallmarks such as reliability and practicality.

Toyotoa Motor Philippines (TMP) President Atsuhiro Okamoto introduced the Vios GR-S as “the country’s most trusted model, injected with GR spirit.”

“There are over 340,000 Vios owners out there who use these reliable, tried and tested vehicles in their daily lives.  Our goal with the Vios GR-S is to transform your reliable everyday car, to a Vios that gives a more pleasurable drive, whether on track or on the road… the Vios GR-S will bring next-level thrill in your everyday drive.” Okamoto added.

Through the introduction of the Toyota Vios GR-S, the first GR-S model in its lineup, TMP intends to make sportier options available for racing fans and motorsports enthusiasts who want to express this passion through their daily drivers.

The new 2021 Toyota Vios GR-S variant is characterized by its unique aggressive front fascia, side skirts and a completely unique rear bumper design. Of course, there’s the obligatory GR Sport badge at the rear of the car, signifying the Vios’ newfound sporting intentions. Unlike the Vios GR-S that was launched in Malaysia, the local Vios GR-S rides on a set of 16-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in 195/50 R16 tires instead of our neighbor’s 205/45 R17 tires, presumably to maintain ride comfort on our pockmarked roads.

Toyota has also upgraded the Vios GR Sport’s interior, featuring synthetic leather + suede sport seats with embossed GR logos, GR push-button start, GR-specific gauges with a color multi-information display and the obligatory red stitching details in the steering, shift knob and doors.

Under the hood of the 2021 Toyota Vios GR-S is the same 1.5-liter inline-4 Dual VVT-i gasoline engine found in the standard 1.5 G variants, which produces 107 hp and 140 Nm of torque. This is then mated to a CVT that has been re-engineered to feature 10 simulated gears which can be controlled through the paddle shifters. Unfortunately, we do not get the sport suspension found in the Malaysian Vios GR-S, and this is also presumably to maintain the car’s ride comfort especially given our country’s road conditions.

TMP also used this opportunity to also upgrade the Vios lineup. XE variants and above now get a new 6.75-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with steering wheel controls. In addition, the XE variant now has four speakers while the XLE, E and G variants feature new seat pattern designs. Lastly, the XLE and E variants are now riding on a new set of alloy wheel designs.

The 2021 Toyota Vios GR-S will go on sale in dealers this March 15, 2021, with a starting price of P1,020,000. In typical Toyota fashion, selecting the White Pearl paint adds P15,000 to the retail price. Also, due to equipment changes, TMP also revised the pricing structure for the Vios lineup, with the 1.5 G variants experiencing a significant price drop.
