The MG 6 has just been facelifted last year, but it seems the Sino-British automaker is still not done at bringing even more excitement to this model. Say hello to the MG 6 XPower, which has just been unveiled via the brand’s official Weibo account. This is the brand’s first high-performance offering, though details about its performance have not yet been fully revealed.
From the outside, the MG 6 XPower certainly looks ready for the track. Clearly inspired by the Sino-British brand’s Chinese Touring Car racer, the MG 6 XPower features a very aggressive front fascia with large air intakes and a blacked-out grille. Clearly noticeable are its wide wheel arches in order to provide room for the wider track. There are also side skirts and even a rear diffuser, though we’re not sure at this point if these are functional or are simply aesthetic upgrades. Also hard to ignore are the quad tailpipes, large rear wing, and black roof.
Inside, the MG 6 XPower is dressed in a mix of black leather and suede upholstery. To highlight its sporting intentions, the interior has a number of green highlights, which is MG XPower’s signature color. Sporty bucket seats provide added lateral support during hard cornering, while drivers get to rest their hands on a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel with suede inserts. Everything else remains unchanged, and this should mean that the MG 6 XPower should be as practical as the standard model.
Powertrain details are still unknown at this point. The standard MG 6 is powered by a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 164 hp and 250 Nm of torque. We suspect that the MG 6 XPower will feature a bigger 2.0-liter turbo engine, with power being sent to the front wheels via a dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
Other than the lack of powertrain details, we do know that this model features high-performance brakes with drilled rotors for improved stopping power and a sportier suspension to lessen body roll even further.
The MG 6 XPower brings track-focused performance to the brand’s popular fastback sedan. Do you wish for MG Philippines to sell this in our market?
