The arrival of the 2021 Land Rover Defender 90, which is the three-door short-wheelbase version of the Defender 110 that’s already on sale in the Philippines, was first announced in November 2020. After several months since its initial announcement, the Defender 90 is now on sale in Jaguar Land Rover dealers.
No surprises here in terms of design. The Land Rover Defender 90 is essentially the short-wheelbase version of the Defender 110, which means it features the same boxy and modern reinterpretation of the iconic off-roader that has made Land Rover an icon among off-roaders. Its new architecture provides a ground clearance of 226 mm and a maximum wading depth of 850 mm and is supported by a new Wade sensing system, which ensures drivers can cross deep water with complete confidence.
As for the interior, the Defender 90 features a high-tech yet durable interior that’s perfect when going through the rough stuff. The 10-inch Pivi Pro infotainment and fully-digital gauge cluster are powered by the Land Rover Electronic Vehicle Architecture (EVA 2.0) which supports over-the-air updates.
On dry land, Land Rover’s advanced ClearSight Ground View technology helps drivers take full advantage of Defender’s all-conquering capability by showing the area usually hidden by the hood, directly ahead of the front wheels, on the central touchscreen.
Powering the Defender 90 is Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium D240 inline-4 twin-turbo diesel powertrain that produces 240 hp and 430 Nm of torque and is mated to an 8-speed automatic. The new Defender 90 is also equipped with independent front and rear suspensions with adaptive dynamics along with a selectable all-wheel drive (AWD) system with several modes that optimize performance on a variety of different surfaces.
As a result of its wide array of innovative technologies, the Land Rover Defender 90 redefines breadth of capability, raising the threshold for both off-road ruggedness and on-road comfort. It can negotiate crowded city streets as effortlessly as climbing mountains, crossing deserts, and withstanding freezing temperatures. Its carefully-honed handling delivers both a rewarding drive and first-class long-haul comfort across all terrains.
