2022 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport Gets Upgraded Suspension, Sportier Looks

The Thai-spec Toyota Fortuner GR Sport is based on the LTD variant, and it gets an upgraded suspension set up as well.

Alongside the Hilux GR Sport, Toyota has also applied the Gazoo Racing treatment to the Fortuner. The 2022 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport has just been unveiled in Thailand. This isn’t the first time we’re seeing a GR Sport version of the Fortuner though. Toyota Indonesia also unveiled its own version, but the one that debuted in Thailand looks sharper in our opinion and comes with a few handling upgrades as well.

Unlike the Indonesian-spec Fortuner GR Sport, which is basically the standard model with a bolt-on body kit, the Thai version instead is based on the LTD variant with bespoke, albeit similar-looking front and rear bumpers. The LTD’s lower black highlights have also been ditched in favor of body-colored ones. Of course, the obligatory GR badges are also there, which are located in the grille and the tailgate.

2022 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport Interior

As for the interior, the Fortuner GR Sport goes for an all-black motif with numerous red stitching details. The steering wheel also gets a red center line in the middle just like what you would find in high-performance vehicles. Gone are the faux matt wood trims as well, in its place instead are faux carbon fiber interior trims. Lastly, those at the front are treated to GR sport seats just like in the Hilux GR Sport.

Since this is based on the LTD variant, the Toyota Fortuner GR Sport is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-4 turbo diesel engine that produces 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque, with power being sent through a 4WD system via a 6-speed automatic.

Just like the Hilux GR Sport, the Fortuner GR Sport also gets upgraded suspension in the form of monotube shock absorbers. These shocks are designed to keep the Fortuner flat through corners and also improve its handling when going off-road. The front ventilated discs have also been upgraded, along with the addition of GR red brake calipers.

With Toyota Motor Philippines pushing the Gazoo Racing brand in the country, we won’t be surprised if the company will also offer the Fortuner GR Sport soon. We definitely prefer the Thai version of the Fortuner GR Sport, but which do you prefer? Let us know in the comments section.
