The Subaru Forester has recently received a facelift for the global market and is also making its debut in North America today. The Japanese automaker used that opportunity to also unveil the new Subaru Forester Wilderness, a more rugged version of the brand’s best-selling vehicle worldwide.
Just like the new Forester, the Wilderness variant gets the same new LED headlight design as the standard model. The rest of the changes are unique to the Forester Wilderness, such as the added black plastic cladding, hexagonal LED foglights, anti-glare hood decal, gloss black trim pieces, orange accents, and of course the obligatory Subaru Wilderness badges.
Other highlights include the black 17-inch wheels wrapped in Yokohama Geolander tires, a new roof rack capable of carrying up to 363 kg of payload when parked and up to 100 kg while on the move, and a 13 mm increase in ground clearance. As a result, the Subaru Forester Wilderness now has a ground clearance of 234 mm, which is even higher than a number of pickup-based SUVs.
As for the interior, the changes are even more minor. The design is largely unchanged even from the pre-facelift model. The only noticeable changes are the addition of more orange accents, along with the use of StarTex water-resistant upholstery for easy cleaning. Buyers can opt for an options package that adds a powered tailgate, an upgraded 8-inch Subaru Starlink infotainment system, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
Powering the Subaru Forester Wilderness is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline boxer engine that produces 182 hp and 238 Nm of torque, with power being sent to all four wheels via a CVT. For this variant of the Forester, tha CVT has been recalibrated in order to provide more low-end torque.
The 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness will go on sale this October in North America. Do you wish for Motor Image Pilipinas, the local distributor of Subaru in our market, to offer this as well?
