Another day, another Toyota receiving the GR Sport treatment. This time, it’s the Corolla Cross that receives this sporty makeover. Limited for now to Taiwan, the Corolla Cross GR Sport is a sportier version of Toyota’s latest subcompact crossover SUV.
For this GR Sport upgrade, the Corolla Cross dons a unique front fascia. The grille and front bumper are completely new, and the design is much more rugged compared to the standard model’s front end. This version of the Corolla Cross also gets a contrasting black roof, along with a set of faux satin skid plates on the front, side, and rear of the vehicle.
As for the interior, the Corolla Cross GR Sport’s upgrades are much more subdued. These are limited to front seats with GR logos embossed on the headrests, GR logos on the starter button, and a GR startup animation in the infotainment system.
Two powertrain options for this sportier Corolla Cross. The first one is a 1.8-liter inline-4 gasoline engine that produces 140 hp and 172 Nm of torque, with power being sent to the front wheels via a CVT. The second option is the same 122-hp, 1.8-liter hybrid system that’s also powering the Philippine-market Corolla Cross Hybrid, which is likewise mated to a CVT.
Mind you, while now powertrain upgrades have been made, Toyota made a number of improvements under the Corolla Cross’ skin. Specifically, this sportier Corolla Cross gets a stiffened sports suspension and added chassis bracing for improved handling and rigidity.
The Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport is now on sale in Taiwan. Do you wish for Toyota Motor Philippines to sell this vehicle in our country as well?
