The facelifted 2022 Mini Cooper range has finally reached the Philippines through its local distributor Autohub Group.
While the Mini Cooper isn’t exactly all-new, the front fascia receives quite a significant update. The grille now has a black surround, and then the inside of the grille is body-colored this time around. The LED headlights are also new, and so are its triangular side air vents. At the rear, the rear bumper has been revised, while the LED taillights continue to feature the Union Jack design from the British flag.
The interior design largely remains unchanged, though Mini has upgraded all of the car’s switchgear. The LED light ring surrounding the BMW iDrive-based Mini Connect infotainment system now has laser engraving for a cleaner look. Also new for this year is a 5-inch digital instrument cluster and Nappa Leather steering wheel.
Powertrain options for the 2022 Mini Cooper range are unchanged. The Cooper variants continue to be powered by a 1.5-liter inline-3 turbo gasoline engine from the BMW 118i, and it produces 136 hp and 220 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Cooper S gets a bigger 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine that produces 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque, and it’s the same engine you find in the 318i, 320i, and 520i, but in a different state of tune. Power is then sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
For the first time ever, the Mini Cooper now comes with the Driver Assistance Pack, which bundles automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, reverse camera, and rear parking sensors.
