The 2022 Mazda 3 and CX-30 have officially made their way in the Philippines. While their overall designs remain largely unchanged for this year, the most significant update made to these two vehicles is their new e-Skyactiv-G mild-hybrid powertrains, and models equipped with this feature now represent the top-end of their respective lineups.
The new Mazda M Hybrid system significantly improves on the proven Mazda i-Eloop regenerative braking system found in the Mazda 3, Mazda 6, and MX-5. By mating a DC/DC converter, an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), and Regenerative Friction Brake Coordination system with a new 24-volt M Hybrid lithium-ion battery, the 2022 Mazda 3 realizes significant improvements in fuel economy and emissions reduction.
Using energy stored in the onboard M Hybrid lithium battery through regenerative deceleration, the Mazda MHybrid system supplements power generation and supply to the Mazda3’s electrical systems. While the new ISG seamlessly restarts the engine in idle-stop situations, the ISG also assists in smoothening upshifts during gear changes.
The use of this recovered energy, along with automatic engine shut-off at decelerating speeds below 20 kph, lessens demand on the engine and increases vehicle mileage per tank of fuel. With the e-Skyactiv-G M Hybrid, Mazda customers not only realize a smoother drive but also achieve phenomenal fuel savings and lower emissions without having to worry about plugging in or charging.
Both innovations not only reduce the load on the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine but also improve drivability and engine performance, leading to a more luxurious driving experience.
The system also realizes an improvement in overall power output from 155 hp to 164 hp. Furthermore, overall torque is improved from 200 Nm to 213 Nm. The net result is improved fuel economy and more dynamic power delivery.
As for the overall exterior and interior design of the 2022 Mazda 3 and CX-30, the two models remain largely unchanged for this year. The Mazda CX-30 M Hybrid, however, is now wearing a set of 18-inch black alloy wheels. A new color palette has also been introduced in the two Mazda vehicles, namely Platinum Quartz.
Both models come fully-loaded with the brand’s i-Activsense suite of advanced driver-assistance systems, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, 360-degree camera, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, just to name a few.
All 16 Mazda showrooms nationwide offer the 2022 Mazda 3 and CX-30 M Hybrid beginning December 2021. All brand-new models in the lineup are covered by Mazda Philippines’ standard 5 Years Free Service Plan. This ensures a worry-free driving experience, free from parts pricing fluctuations, and additional billings for preventive maintenance expenses such as oil, parts and labor, over the course of a normal 5-year ownership. Along with the 3-Year Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty, every purchase of a brand-new Mazda is a premium experience that is now made even more rewarding.
