After making its debut in the North American market, the mildly-refreshed 2022 Mazda CX-9 has finally reached the Philippines, bringing with it added value and style to the brand’s flagship SUV. The main headline changes for this year are its three new variants: Touring, Black Edition, and Exclusive.
CX-9 Touring: P2,490,000
All variants now come with a redesigned grille, though it won’t be immediately noticeable unless a 2022 model year CX-9 is parked right beside an older model. The range kicks off with the base Touring which replaces the 2WD Sport. This base variant gets the same 18-inch wheels as before, along with automatic LED headlights with halogen daytime running lights, LED taillights, and rain-sensing wipers.
All CX-9 models now come with a larger 9.2-inch Mazda Connect infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, paddle shifters, and auto brake hold for the electronic parking brake. Other features that are new in the base CX-9 Touring are the addition of a powered tailgate and a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. Black leather adorns the interior of this CX-9 variant as well.
CX-9 Black Edition: P2,790,000
Up next is the Black Edition, which is a new mid-variant of the CX-9. As the name implies, this model comes with various black elements on the grille and mirrors, along with adaptive LED headlights with LED daytime running lights. This model also comes with 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels, which completes this sporty variant’s aggressive looks.
If you like your interior to be red, then you’d be happy to know that the CX-9 Black Edition comes with burgundy leather upholstery with red stitching details on the steering wheel. This variant also benefits from a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, rear sunshades, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and 6-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, along with butt coolers for both front seats. Additionally, there are two USB ports under the rear center armrest, along with a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
This CX-9 Black Edition also comes with a few i-Activsense driver-assist features, namely lane departure warning with lane keeping assist, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera system.
CX-9 AWD Exclusive: P2,990,000
If you want the ultimate CX-9 with every single bell and whistle, then the CX-9 AWD Exclusive is perfect for you. The CX-9 Exclusive sets itself apart with its 20-inch bright silver wheels, gray metallic grille, and larger tailpipes.
Those who demand luxury will be impressed by its quilted Oriental Brown Nappa Leather interior. In addition, there’s also a sunroof, frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, along with the entire suite of i-Activsense driver-assist features. On top of what’s already available on the CX-9 Black Edition, the AWD Exclusive variant adds Mazda Radar Cruise Control and Smart City Brake Support for both the front and rear of the vehicle.
All 2022 Mazda CX-9 models are powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Skyactiv-G gasoline engine that produces 231 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. As with every Mazda, this comes with the brand’s G-Vectoring Control Plus system that applies subtle braking force to the inner wheels for better cornering.
Of course, the 2022 Mazda CX-9 comes with the brand’s 5-year free maintenance program, which covers the expenses of periodic maintenance at either 6-months or 10,000-kilometer intervals, for up to 5 years or 100,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.
