Over the years, cars have become smartphones or computers on wheels. And since tech progresses so fast, that screen or driver-assistance tech that you benefit from while driving can get outdated far faster than the car itself. Thankfully, Toyota has noticed this issue and will soon launch a new program Kinto Factory.
With Kinto Factory, eligible Toyota models will soon be able to receive the most cutting-edge in infotainment and driver-assistance tech. Two services will be offered: upgrading, remodeling, and personalization.
Arguably the most important of these services would be upgrading, as this will let your eligible Toyota to receive the latest driver-assistance tech, such as blind spot warning, automatic emergency braking, powered tailgate, lane keeping assist, just to name a few. On the other hand, remodeling will replace the vehicle’s worn-out interior parts, namely the seats, steering, and cushions. Personalization is straightforward, as it enables owners to personalize their cars. No definite list of services is available as of the moment, as Toyota says this service involves a lot of data gathering of its customers.
For now, only the following Toyota and Lexus models are eligible for the Kinto Factory service:
- Prius α
These services will launch already on late January. Personalization will launch at a much later date, however. Pricing and other information will be announced closer to its launch date. For now, Kinto Factory is only available in Japan. The service will eventually be expanded outside Japan, and since the Japanese automaker says that this is just the first step of the program, expect more models to be eligible, too.
