2022 Geely Emgrand Now In PH, Tops Out At Just P908K

The 2022 Geely Emgrand will certainly worry the subcompact sedan establishment with its class-above size and features.

Coming off a strong 2021 that saw its sales triple compared to the previous year, Geely has finally launched its first sedan for the Philippine market. Say hello to the 2022 Geely Emgrand, and while it competes price-wise in the subcompact sedan segment that’s composed of the Toyota Vios and Honda City, its size is actually in the bigger compact sedan segment.

Now on its fourth generation, the 2022 Geely Emgrand is riding on the new BMA platform co-developed with Volvo that’s also shared with the extremely-popular Coolray subcompact SUV. 3.38 million units have already been sold in China and the rest of the world since 2009, making the Emgrand a very important global car for Geely.

From a design perspective, the Emgrand wears Geely’s Energy Pulse grille design, which is its motif that’s catered to its sedans. Its SUVs, on the other hand, wear the familiar Expanding Cosmos grille. Forward illumination comes courtesy of sleek headlights, which come with LED daytime running lights as standard and LED main beams for the Comfort and Premium variants. Full-width LED taillights, on the other hand, are equipped as standard across the range. It even comes with an animation when you unlock the vehicle.

Other exterior features include 15-inch steel wheels for the base S, 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels for the Comfort and above, and a Hands-Free Trunk Release exclusive to the Premium, which automatically pops the trunk open when you stand right next to it for three seconds with the smart key fob in your possession.

Geely also shook up the market with its vehicles’ premium interiors relative to its price point, and the Emgrand is no exception. The horizontal design motif of the dashboard is complemented with generous soft-touch plastics, which is a stark contrast to the segment’s standards.

All variants also come with an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, push-button start, and automatic climate control. Opting for the mid-spec Comfort gets you an electronic parking brake with auto hold and a drive mode selector. Lastly, the top trim Premium variant comes with a blue and white interior with synthetic leather and suede upholstery, 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 6-speaker audio system, and a sunroof.

As for its powertrain, the 2022 Geely Emgrand comes with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 102 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque, with power being sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual or a CVT with eight simulated ratios.

Safety is also a top priority for Geely. The BMA platform consists of 70 percent high-strength steel, and thanks to precision laser welding from its 5G-enabled robotic factory, the Emgrand’s structure is extremely strong and rigid. Not only does this provide an excellent ride quality, but it also safety. On top of this, the Emgrand comes as standard with hill start assist, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring, and dual SRS airbags on the S variants. Splurging for the Comfort variant adds rear parking sensors and a reverse camera, while front side and side curtain airbags are offered on the Premium variant.

The 2022 Geely Emgrand is now on sale for P798,000 for the Comfort and P908,000 for the Premium. Pricing for the base S variant has not yet been announced. In addition, a free 1-year maintenance is also offered on the Emgrand, along with a P50,000 savings voucher.
