The all-new 2022 MG HS has finally arrived in the Philippines, and it will sit alongside their RX5 compact SUV.

The 2022 MG HS has finally arrived in the Philippines and it’s the Chinese-British automaker’s newest entry into the highly-competitive compact SUV segment. It will sit alongside the RX5, wherein the HS will be MG’s more premium offering.

Compared to the MG RX5, which is actually branded as a Roewe, the HS is an MG-developed vehicle through and through. This is reflected in its design, which shares quite a lot with the MG 6 compact sedan, though its platform is related to the RX5’s. Some of its design highlights include the brand’s signature Stellar Field grille that’s flanked by LED headlights (for the Trophy variant) with LED daytime running lights. The Trophy variant rides on 18-inch wheels, while the rear end of the MG HS features a sloping roofline and striking LED taillights as standard.

Moving towards the interior of the 2022 MG HS, you’ll appreciate what we think is the brand’s best-designed interior yet. Not only does it look great, but it’s also trimmed in premium materials. The dashboard and doors are covered in soft-touch plastics, while the knobs and switches have a reassuringly solid feel. The base Alpha variant comes with LED ambient lights, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, synthetic leather upholstery, analog gauges, a 10-inch touch screen, manual airconditioning, and a panoramic sunroof. Splurging for the Trophy variant adds a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, along with sporty bucket seats for the front occupants.

Powering the 2022 MG HS is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that produces 169 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. This is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

As for safety, the MG HS comes with the usual suite of airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, and hill descent control. Splurging for the top trim Trophy variant adds blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert.

The 2022 MG HS is now on sale on all of the brand’s dealers nationwide with an introductory price of P1,158,888 for the base Alpha variant, and P1,208,888 for the top trim Trophy variant. After the introductory price, the MG HS will then start at P1,258,888 for the Alpha variant and P1,308,888 for the Trophy variant.
