Four SM Malls In NCR Now Have Free Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

SM Supermalls is the first mall chain in the Philippines to introduce electric vehicle charging stations to its parking spots.

In case you missed it, the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) or Republic Act 11697 silently passed or lapsed into law on April 15. This law also requires new and upcoming buildings to have five percent of their total parking spots consisting of electric vehicle charging stations.

The first such commercial establishment to do this is SM Supermalls, specifically, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, SM Aura in Taguig, SM North EDSA in Quezon City, and SM Megamall in Madaluyong. These four malls are just the beginning because more charging stations will also be rolled out to other SM malls in the country. For the simultaneous launch event held at these four SM malls, electric vehicles from PGA Cars such as the Porsche Taycan and the Audi e-tron were used for demonstration purposes.

The charging stations use a Wallbox Pulsar Plus 7.4kW AC charger, and these chargers support EVs with Type 2 connectors. Vehicles that support these connectors include Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Jaguar, Nissan, and Porsche, just to name a few.

With this initiative, SM Supermalls is effectively the first mall chain to introduce dedicated electric vehicle charging stations to its parking spots. If you want to try these charging stations, they’re specifically located at SM Aura B1 parking, SM Mall of Asia 3rd floor North Parking Building, SM Megamall B1 parking Mega Fashion Hall, and SM North EDSA 3rd floor North Parking Tower. These charging stations are currently being offered for free, which suddenly makes us owners of gas and diesel-powered cars jealous amid today’s high fuel prices.
