Facelifted 2022 Mazda CX-5 Arrives In PH With Turbo Power For P2.380M

After making its debut near the end of last year, the facelifted 2022 Mazda CX-5 has finally arrived in the Philippines. Interestingly, the Philippines is also the first market in the ASEAN region to receive the facelifted CX-5–way ahead even of Malaysia where our CX-5 and CX-8 are sourced. This means that the facelifted models arriving in the Philippines aren’t made in Malaysia. Instead, these are from Japan.

For now, only one variant of the facelifted 2022 Mazda CX-5 will be sold, and that is this 2.5 AWD Turbo that will replace the 2.2 Signature Diesel. Yes, that’s right. For the first time ever, the gas-powered turbocharged CX-5 with the same 2.5 turbo engine as the CX-9 will be sold in the Philippine market.

Exterior changes to the 2022 Mazda CX-5 are subtle but easily noticeable. The sole Turbo variant that will be sold here is the Signature variant that’s sold elsewhere, which means our CX-5 comes with body-colored body cladding, 19-inch wheels, and full LED lighting, from the headlights, daytime running lights, and down to the reverse lights and turn signals. Onlookers will easily spot the new grille with a chrome finish along with the resculpted front bumper. The wider lower air intake means that the LED foglights have also been deleted.

Interior changes to the 2022 Mazda CX-5 are much more subtle. As a matter of fact, this is limited to a new interior color called Deep Red Nappa Leather (which looks more like brown under certain lighting conditions). Other than that, its features have also been upgraded as it now comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless charging, just to name a few. Other premium features that this variant gets are ventilated (cooled) front seats, powered tailgate, and a sunroof.

Unfortunately, while Japanese, European, and North American CX-5s get the latest widescreen Mazda Connect infotainment system from the Mazda 3 and CX-30, it’s worth noting that our CX-5 is still using the first-generation version, albeit with a larger 8-inch screen.

As mentioned, the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 now comes with a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that produces 253 hp and 434 Nm of torque–which are basically class-leading numbers. This engine sends power to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic. Mazda says that this powertrain lets the CX-5 sprint from 0-100 kph in just 7.7 seconds, which is the fastest in its class.

Apart from the visual upgrades, Mazda also updated the car’s driving dynamics. The suspension has been tuned to enhance ride comfort, while the body shell sees a number of structural modifications, all in the name of reducing road noise. The seats are also slightly redesigned for better long-distance comfort.

As this is the top-shelf CX-5, it pretty much comes fully loaded with Mazda’s i-Activsense suite of advanced driver-assistance tech. The new CX-5 comes with automatic emergency braking (front and rear), lane departure warning, lane keeping assist (though not lane centering), radar cruise control (but it deactivates at under 30 kph), adaptive LED headlights, 360-degree camera, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic alert.

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 2.5 AWD is now on sale across all of the brand’s dealers for P2,380,000. The facelifted CX-5 will be sold alongside the pre-facelift CX-5, though the base 2WD Pro has now been discontinued. Therefore, the CX-5 range now kicks off with the 2WD Sport.
