More than a year after making its global debut, the 2023 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT has officially landed in the Philippines. While it doesn’t carry the “coupe” moniker, the Turbo GT is a variant of the Cayenne Coupe. It’s also the fastest SUV that Porsche currently makes.
Of course, it’s only worthy to talk about its powertrain first since it’s what sets the Cayenne Turbo GT from other Cayenne models. Under its hood is a re-engineered version of the Cayenne Turbo’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. More than just a simple ECU remap, the engine now produces 631 hp, which is 90 more than the Cayenne Turbo, while its torque has been increased to 850 Nm–80 more than the Cayenne Turbo. This engine drives all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic that comes with revised software and additional cooling. This results in faster shift times, though not yet as quickly as the company’s PDK dual-clutch automatic.
These numbers are not as powerful as the Cayenne Tubo S E-Hybrid’s 670-hp figures, but since it doesn’t have an electric motor and batteries to speak of, the Cayenne Turbo GT has the honor of being the fastest Cayenne out there. 0-100 kph is achieved in just 3.3 seconds, while its top speed is quoted at 297 kph.
Porsche isn’t just known for making powerful cars. Handling plays a key role in why its cars perform extremely well, and the Cayenne Turbo GT delivers on that aspect. Numerous chassis improvements such as the 17 mm lower ride height and the revised tuning for the adaptive suspension, dynamic chassis control, electric power steering, and rear-wheel steering make the Cayenne Turbo GT corner better on the track. In addition, the front wheels are 25.4 mm wider than the Cayenne Turbo, while a negative camber of 0.45 degrees was also implemented.
All of these upgrades have also made the 2023 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT the best-handling Cayenne ever, and this made it the fastest SUV to ever go around the Nurburgring, completing the grueling track in just 7:38.9, four seconds faster than the previous fastest SUV, the Audi RS Q8.
As a way to showcase its upgraded performance, the 2023 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT sets itself apart from other Cayenne variants through its GT-specific front fascia, 22-inch GT-design wheels, and black wheel arch extensions to compensate for the wider wheels. For a lower center of gravity, the roof has been made out of carbon fiber, while the GT-specific rear spoiler adds 40 kg of downforce. Lastly, a carbon fiber rear diffuser aids in providing downforce at the rear.
Despite being a track-focused SUV, the 2023 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT still comes with a luxurious interior. Buyers can have its interior surfaces are covered in lightweight Alcantara, such as the steering, dash, center console, and seats. The model on display, however, keeps the leather upholstery for a more luxurious ambiance. Also new for the Cayenne Turbo GT, but was introduced to other Cayenne models, is an updated Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system, as it now comes with added functionality as well as Android Auto. PCM used to only support Apple CarPlay.
