At the ongoing Monterey Speed Week, the 2023 Lamborghini Urus Performante has just been unveiled. It’s an even more potent version of the world’s first “super SUV”, and it follows through with more power and less weight compared to the standard model.
As Lamborghini’s best-selling model, accounting for nearly 40 percent of the brand’s sales–most of which are new to the brand, having a more potent version is simply a fitting act. Of course, you definitely want to show off that added performance, so Lamborghini gave the Urus Perfomante the aggressive looks it deserves. This is characterized by a more aggressive front bumper with a carbon fiber splitter, black intakes, and a ventilated carbon fiber hood. The carbon fiber hood can either be painted or feature an exposed weave as shown in these photos.
The Urus Performante can also be fitted with an optional carbon fiber roof, while standard on all models are sportier rocker panels, carbon fiber wheel arches, side air curtains, as well as a large rear spoiler that adds 38 percent more downforce. Topping it all off are a carbon fiber rear diffuser and rear bumper, an Akrapovič titanium exhaust, and lightweight wheels that measure a staggering 22- or 23-inches. These wheels feature titanium bolts as well as bespoke Pirelli P Zero tires.
More sporty touches can be seen inside the Urus Peformante. Black Alcantara seats with hexagonal accents come as standard, along with black aluminum trim, a flat-bottomed leather and Alcantara steering, as well as an increased amount of Alcantara on the dash and doors. An optional Dark Package gives the controls a matte black finish, while as with every Lamborghini, customers can utilize the brand’s Ad Personam program for an even higher level of customization.
The 2023 Lamborghini Urus Performante unsurprisingly comes with a power upgrade. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 has seen a 16 hp increase as it now produces 657 hp, though its 850 Nm of torque is unchanged from the standard model. This drives all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic. This enables this hulking SUV to sprint from 0-100 kph in just 3.3 seconds, while its top speed is 306 kph.
A Lamborghini being given the Performante moniker also means it should be lighter than the standard model. Lamborghini claims that the Urus Performante has the highest amount of carbon fiber parts in its segment, and this results in a 47 kg diet. Apart from the carbon fiber parts, the Urus Performante swaps out the heavy air suspension for conventional steel springs, while the steering has been recalibrated for more precise and direct inputs. Lastly, there’s a new differential that offers better torque distribution across its four wheels.
The new differential allows for a new Rally drive mode that tunes the vehicle for driving fast on dirt roads. The anti-roll and damping systems are optimized under this mode to give the Urus Performante amplified oversteer characteristics.
Thanks to these upgrades, the 2023 Lamborghini Urus Performante has already shown off its credentials by beating the Pikes Peak hill climb record for SUVs. It was able to finish the course in 10:32.064, beating the previous SUV record of 10:49.902.
The 2023 Lamborghini Urus Performante is set to go on sale before the end of the year in North America and Europe. A Philippine launch will most likely happen by next year under its official Philippine distributor PGA Cars.
