2022 PIMS: Suzuki PH’s First Electrified Vehicle Is The Ertiga Hybrid

The Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid is the brand's first hybrid model in the Philippines and it's also their first foray into electrification.

Suzuki Philippines (SPH) has just unveiled their “special model” that they promised a day before the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). It’s called the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid, and it’s a model that signals their entry into the world of electrification in the Philippines.

From the outside, the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid sets itself apart from the standard model with its new grille, a revised tailgate garnish, and new 15-inch alloy wheels. The rest of the exterior carries over unchanged, and it must be noted that the bodykit seen here is an optional extra. Of course, since the exterior changes are so subtle, the obligatory hybrid badge is seen at the Ertiga’s tailgate.

Inside, the changes are even more subtle. These are merely limited to a new analog gauge design, a restyled color multi-information display, and new trimmings for the panels and seats. There’s also a leather-wrapped steering wheel and at least from what our eyes saw, a 360-degree camera system that’s displayed in the infotainment system.

The most important upgrade that was made to the Ertiga, however, is its hybrid powertrain. Actually, just to make it clear, despite being labeled as a “hybrid”, its powertrain is actually just a mild-hybrid system. Therefore, don’t expect this MPV to be able to run in pure electric mode like in Toyota or Nissan’s hybrid systems.

The mild-hybrid system blends Suzuki’s tried-and-tested 1.5-liter K15B four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 12-volt integrated starter generator (ISG) that comes with a lithium-ion battery. As a result, the Ertiga Hybrid promises better fuel efficiency with its engine start/stop system, regenerative braking, and torque assist that’s provided by the mild-hybrid system. However, its power figures remain unchanged at 105 hp and 138 Nm of torque, which drives the front wheels via a 4-speed automatic.
