Toyota just couldn’t stop teasing the next-generation Innova. That’s because the Japanese automaker has released yet another teaser photo anew, this time showcasing its panoramic sunroof and ambient LED lighting. This gives us hints that the 2023 Toyota Innova will be the most luxurious and premium to date.
As mentioned, rumors have suggested that the next-generation Innova will be migrating towards the more sophisticated Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform–specifically, the TNGA-C that underpins the Corolla Altis and Corolla Cross. The migration to this platform has been somewhat confirmed by the previous teaser photo that indicates its hybrid powertrain. After all, the IMV body-on-frame platform of the current Innova, Hilux, and Fortuner wasn’t meant to accommodate an electrified powertrain.
The migration to the TNGA-C platform will also enable the Innova to gain Toyota Safety Sense–the brand’s suite of advanced driver-assistance tech. This includes Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, and Automatic High Beam, just to name a few.
However, the migration towards the TNGA-C platform will also mean that the Innova will now be front-wheel drive (FWD) as opposed to the current model’s rear-wheel drive (RWD) layout. It will also mean that the monocoque body structure of the TNGA platform will give it a much more car-like driving experience. It will be interesting to see how the Philippine market responds, especially given how the Innova is also treated as a heavy-duty utility vehicle.
No launch date has still been confirmed for the 2023 Toyota Innova, but considering how busy the Japanese automaker has been teasing its upcoming MPV, its launch date is probably just right around the corner.
